Where to stay in Kyiv — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Kyiv, Ukraine's capital, has stood for more than 1,500 years on the hills above the broad Dnipro River — one of Eastern Europe's oldest cities and the cradle of Kyivan Rus, the medieval state at the root of East Slavic civilisation. What sets Kyiv apart is having two UNESCO World Heritage sites in a single city: Saint Sophia Cathedral, which still holds its complete 11th-century mosaics and frescoes, and the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, a working monastery with a labyrinth of caves running over 600 metres underground. Gold Byzantine-Baroque domes glint against blue skies, history sits on every corner, and the cafe culture and the warmth of Kyivans come as a happy surprise.
Why stay in Kyiv
Two UNESCO sites in one city
Saint Sophia Cathedral (built under Yaroslav the Wise) and the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra share a single World Heritage listing — millennium-old mosaics, golden domes and underground caves where monks still live.
Sweeping Dnipro River views
The city rises on hills along the Dnipro, which cuts through its heart. Panoramic lookouts, riverside parks and a glass pedestrian bridge give you both banks of Kyiv at once.
The roots of Kyivan Rus
The birthplace of East Slavic civilisation, with the reconstructed Golden Gate, Maidan square, and Andriyivskyy Descent — a cobbled street packed with art galleries and handmade crafts.
Outstanding value
Far cheaper than Western Europe. Hotels, dining and transport all cost little — a metro ride is around 8 UAH, and a hearty plate of local food won't dent your budget.
