Where to stay in Kosice — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Tired of overcrowded tourist traps? Košice is the underrated gem you've been missing. Slovakia's second-largest city sits in the far east of the country and pulls off a rare trick: deeply historic yet refreshingly laid-back. At its heart stands St. Elizabeth Cathedral, the largest church in Slovakia and the easternmost Gothic cathedral in Europe, anchoring the long pedestrian boulevard of Hlavná ulica that's lined with cafés, restaurants and a dancing musical fountain. Košice was a European Capital of Culture in 2013, and it's also the natural base for visiting Spiš Castle, the largest castle complex in Central Europe and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Easy on the wallet, big on atmosphere.
