🚆 Getting around Musanze
Fly into Kigali (KGL), then drive
Kigali International Airport (KGL) is the main gateway. From there it's roughly 105-115km to Musanze, about 2 to 2.5 hours by road on good, paved highway.
Bus from Kigali (Nyabugogo)
Coaches leave Kigali's Nyabugogo station roughly every half hour for around 3,000 francs, taking about 2 hours. Reliable operators include Virunga Express, Volcano Express, Ritco and Kigali Bus Service.
Moto-taxis
The go-to way to get around town. Drivers carry a spare helmet for you; a typical cross-town ride runs about 300-400 francs and fares are negotiable. Fast and cheap.
4WD with driver / transfers
For gorilla trekking, a 4WD with driver is recommended — the access roads to the trailheads are rough dirt tracks. Private transfers from Kigali are widely available.
Cash: Rwandan Franc (RWF)
