Where to stay in Vianden — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Vianden is a medieval castle town on the banks of the Our river in northern Luxembourg, tucked into the wooded Ardennes (the Éislek region). It is tiny — barely 2,200 residents — but crowned by the Vianden Castle, which CNN once named one of the 20 most beautiful castles in the world. The view up the cobbled Grand-Rue toward the hilltop fortress is one of the most photographed scenes in the whole country. Vianden sits about 47–55 km from Luxembourg City, making it an easy day trip, though staying overnight lets you enjoy the quiet, floodlit streets after the crowds leave. Highlights include Luxembourg's only chairlift soaring over the valley, the Victor Hugo House (the writer stayed here in 1871), the giant SEO pumped-storage dam, and the scenic 8.5 km Ourdall Promenade along the river. Best of all: all public transport nationwide has been free since 2020, and Thai passport holders enter the Schengen Area visa-free for 90 days.
