Where to stay in Luxembourg City — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Luxembourg City is a capital built on dramatic sandstone cliffs above the Alzette and Pétrusse river gorges. Its old town and fortifications have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994. What makes it special is the mix: the centuries-old Bock Casemates tunnels, the quiet riverside Grund valley below, and the gleaming EU institutions of Kirchberg — all packed into a compact city you can explore on foot in a day, where all public transport has been free since 2020. This guide helps you pick the right neighbourhood for your trip before you book a hotel.
Why stay in Luxembourg City
A fortress on the cliffs
The Bock Casemates — kilometres of tunnels carved into sandstone from 1644 — are walkable today, with sweeping views over the Grund and Clausen valleys. They are the heart of the UNESCO-listed fortifications.
Everything runs free

Europe's best balcony
The Chemin de la Corniche, dubbed 'the most beautiful balcony in Europe', traces the old ramparts above the Alzette, looking down over the Grund. Free, and gorgeous in any season.
Small but complete
Walk from the UNESCO old town down to the Grund valley, across the Adolphe Bridge and over to the modern EU quarter of Kirchberg, all in one day. Ideal for a relaxed 2-3 day trip.
