Where to stay in Echternach — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Echternach is Luxembourg's oldest town, founded around AD 698 around the Benedictine abbey of St. Willibrord. Set on a bend of the Sûre River that doubles as the natural border with Germany, it's the gateway to the Mullerthal region — nicknamed "Little Switzerland of Luxembourg" for its green forests, dramatic sandstone rock formations and legendary hiking. If you want a calm, uncrowded slice of Europe that packs medieval history, an ancient abbey, a Roman villa and serious trail walking into one small town, Echternach is the easy answer most people overlook.
