Where to stay in Petra — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Petra is an entire city carved straight into rose-coloured sandstone cliffs by the Nabataeans more than 2,000 years ago. You walk through a 1.2 km slot canyon called the Siq, and then the towering facade of Al-Khazneh (the Treasury) slowly reveals itself — the view that earned Petra its place as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The base town is Wadi Musa, an easy 3.5 km from the main gate.

How many days do you need at Petra?+
At least one full day for the Treasury, the Siq and the Royal Tombs. To add the Monastery, the High Place of Sacrifice and Little Petra without rushing, two days is ideal — and the two-day ticket costs just 5 JOD more than one day.
Where should you stay in Wadi Musa?+
For walking distance to the gate, pick near the Mövenpick and Visitor Centre. For restaurants and mid-range prices, Tourist Street works well, while the town centre and Al-Ma'abda offer the best value for budget travellers.
Is Petra by Night worth it, and when is it?+
It runs on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 20:30 — you walk the candle-lit Siq to Bedouin music at the Treasury. Tickets are 30 JOD and separate (not covered by the Jordan Pass), and it's especially magical for couples and photographers.
