Picture a 20-floor glass tower rising over the rooflines on Slovenska cesta in the city center — that is the InterContinental Ljubljana, a 5-star international hotel that opened in 2017 and is still the tallest building in town. It holds 165 rooms and suites, every one with floor-to-ceiling glass, and the higher floors open onto a full sweep of the Julian Alps. The headline feature is the largest spa in the city, paired with an indoor pool on the 19th floor that guests call the sky pool, plus B Restaurant on floor 20 — a rooftop spot with 360-degree views taking in Ljubljana Castle and the Ljubljanica river, and a sky bar alongside. It sits dead center in the Center district: about a 5-minute walk to Ljubljana train station, roughly 25 minutes by car from LJU airport. Real guest reviews line up on the views, the cleanliness, the breakfast and the spa, for an overall 9.0/10 — a strong fit for couples, luxury travelers and business guests who want full international 5-star polish in this small, warm capital.

  • Tallest building in town, with a full Julian Alps panorama
  • Spa plus a 19th-floor sky pool, the largest in the city
  • Top-of-town breakfast and B Restaurant on floor 20
  • Clean modern design, short on Old Town character
  • Highest prices in town and it fills fast in peak months

1905 city iconreal Art Nouveaurooftop pool castle view3 min to Triple Bridge

Grand Hotel Union Eurostars has stood guard over central Ljubljana since 1905. The cream Art Nouveau pile behind the pink Franciscan Church was designed by architect Josip Vancaš, opened as the Grand Hotel Union, and was once the largest hotel in what was then Yugoslav territory. It now runs under the Eurostars brand after a major 2024 renovation, with 194 rooms and suites, the landmark mosaic staircase in the lobby, and the original Unionska Dvorana ballroom that still hosts dances. The new headline is a top-floor wellness spa with an infinity pool that looks straight onto Ljubljana Castle. You can walk to Prešeren Square and Plečnik's Triple Bridge in about 3 minutes, the central train station in another 5. Rooms start around $180, and the place suits couples and anyone who wants to soak up the Slovenian capital's history from inside the legend.

  • Dead-central spot, 3 minutes on foot to the Triple Bridge
  • 1905 Art Nouveau building plus the famous mosaic staircase
  • New rooftop pool with a Ljubljana Castle view
  • Some old-wing rooms catch street noise from Miklošičeva
  • Standard rooms run smaller than a newer 5-star's

Zlata Ladjica Boutique Hotel — hotel No. 3 #3 riverside boutique · Old Town 9.6

📍 Right on the Ljubljanica river in the heart of the Old Town — 1 minute to Triple Bridge, about 8 minutes to Ljubljana Castle, 12 minutes to the central railway station, and roughly 30 minutes by car to Ljubljana airport (LJU).

🏛️ 17th-century gold merchant's building 🛶 Right on the Ljubljanica river 🥐 Famous homemade breakfast
17th-century buildingLjubljanica riversidehomemade breakfast#1 Tripadvisor Ljubljana

Zlata Ladjica Boutique Hotel — the name means "golden boat" in Slovenian — is a 5-star boutique of just 15 rooms set inside a 17th-century gold merchant's building right on the Ljubljanica river in the heart of Ljubljana's Old Town. The draw is not chain-hotel grandeur but a warm Central-European feel: original stone walls left bare, paired with clean modern furniture, and windows that open onto the river, the old bridges and the café terraces along the bank. Triple Bridge and Prešeren Square are a 1-minute walk, Ljubljana Castle about 8 minutes. What earned it #1 on Tripadvisor for the city and a spot in the MICHELIN Guide is the near-unanimous praise for service — the owner and a small team know every guest by name. The plate-by-plate homemade breakfast is so well-liked that many reviewers say they'd return just for it. Rates start around $240 a night, the overall score is 9.6/10, and it suits couples and Old-Town wanderers who value warm service over a full spa-pool-gym lineup.

  • Owner-run service that knows guests by name — #1 on Tripadvisor Ljubljana
  • Riverside location in the Old Town, 1 minute to Triple Bridge
  • Plate-by-plate homemade breakfast, famous across the city
  • Small hotel of just 15 rooms — no spa, pool or gym
  • Some rooms are compact; better for couples than large families

📍 Central Ljubljana on Slovenska cesta — about a 5-minute walk to the Triple Bridge and the old town, roughly 10 minutes to the central train and bus station, and about 30 minutes by car to Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU).

26-room boutique warm design5-min walk to Triple Bridgestaff reviewers praisehigh-quality breakfast

Hotel Cubo is a 4-star boutique of just 26 rooms on Slovenska cesta in central Ljubljana, and it has held a #2 spot on Tripadvisor in the city for years. Walk out of the lobby and you reach the Triple Bridge — Jože Plečnik's signature work — in about 5 minutes, with the old town and the central market right across the river. What sets the place apart is a calm, minimalist look in warm beige and grey with natural wood that small boutiques pull off better than the chains. Most rooms run 22–30 square metres with marble bathrooms and rain showers, and the upper floors look out toward Castle Hill. The service is the part reviewers agree on almost unanimously — genuinely warm, and helpful well past what you'd expect. Breakfast comes up just as often: made fresh, plated with local Slovenian products. The average guest score is 9.1/10. Best for couples and city wanderers who want a quiet stay with character in the old town.

  • Central location, 5-minute walk to the Triple Bridge
  • Warm staff that reviewers consistently single out
  • Fresh-made, high-quality breakfast
  • Small 26-room boutique — rooms are comfortable, not large or lavish
  • Rooms facing Slovenska cesta can catch traffic noise in the morning

Hotel Heritage Ljubljana is a 5-star boutique with just 20 rooms, tucked into a Renaissance building over 400 years old on ČevljarskaCobblers' Street — the shortest lane in Ljubljana's old town. A full 2021 renovation kept the original stone walls, old wooden beams and high ceilings intact, then layered in warm modern furniture. Step out the door and the Triple Bridge, the city's signature landmark, is a 3-minute walk; Ljubljana Castle is about 5 minutes uphill, and Strelec, the Michelin-starred restaurant inside the castle's old fortress tower, sits just 3 minutes away. Reviews single out the owner-run service as the warmest in town, the made-to-order breakfast brought to your table, and the river views from a few rooms looking over the Ljubljanica — the mix that pushes its real-guest score to 9.4/10. Best for couples and culture-minded travelers who fall for old buildings and a quiet spot in the middle of the action.

Vander Urbani Resort, a Member of Design Hotels — hotel No. 6 #6 Design boutique · heart of the old town 8.4

📍 On Krojaška ulica, a pedestrian alley in the heart of the old town beside the Ljubljanica river — a 200-metre walk to Town Square (Mestni trg) and about 5 minutes to the Triple Bridge (Tromostovje). Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) is roughly a 25-minute drive.

🏛️ 20-room boutique across 4 linked historic houses 🛁 Rooftop plunge pool and yoga studio 🚶 200-metre walk to Town Square

Vander Urbani Resort, a Member of Design Hotels is a 20-room boutique hidden on Krojaška ulica, a small pedestrian alley along the Ljubljanica river in the heart of Ljubljana's old town. The draw is the building itself: four linked historic houses stitched together the way central-European old towns are. Slovenian architects Sadar+Vuga gutted and reworked the interiors into clean, modern minimalist spaces, opened the hotel in 2011, and joined Design Hotels from the start. Up on the roof you'll find a small plunge pool with a wooden sun deck and a glass-walled yoga studio, looking out over the old town's orange-tiled roofs to Ljubljana Castle on its hill. The hotel's Vander Restaurant earns its own praise in reviews. But location is the trump card — it's a 200-metre walk to Town Square (Mestni trg) and about 5 minutes to the Triple Bridge (Tromostovje). With an average 8.4/10, it suits couples and design lovers who want to soak up the old town on foot.

  • Member of Design Hotels — minimalist interiors inside charming old buildings
  • Rooftop plunge pool and yoga studio with old-town views
  • Pedestrian-alley setting, 200 metres to Town Square
  • Small 20-room boutique — hard to book in high season
  • Rooftop pool is a small plunge pool, not for real swimming

🏛️ Historic building running on the same spot since 1552 🛁 In-house spa and fitness centre 🍳 Breakfast buffet reviews call the best in the city
On Slovenska cesta470-year-old landmarkBest breakfast buffet in townWalk to the castle

Best Western Premier Hotel Slon has run on the same spot since 1552 — local legend says townsfolk named it after an elephant belonging to Emperor Maximilian II, who reportedly stopped here on the way to Vienna. The current building rises 7 floors with 168 rooms in a warm, modern style, sitting at Slovenska cesta 34 in the city centre. From the door it's a few minutes' walk to the Triple Bridge (Tromostovje), Prešeren Square, the central market, and the climb up to Ljubljana Castle. The thing reviews mention most is the breakfast buffet, which many guests rate the best in town, plus a small spa, a fitness room, and Slon Café on the ground floor where locals stop in for coffee. Rates start around $137 a night for an overall 8.7/10 (Agoda 8.7, Booking 8.8). It suits travelers who want a historic hotel, a pin-perfect location, and steady service at a price that won't sting.

  • Dead-centre Slovenska cesta 34 — about 5 minutes' walk to every landmark
  • Breakfast buffet rated the best in Ljubljana
  • 470-year-old legend wrapped in a renovated modern building
  • Street-facing rooms hear trams and buses all day
  • Spa and plunge pool are smaller than the Premier name suggests

The building is registered as a Slovenian cultural monument and belongs to Historic Hotels of Europe. Walk through the door and you hit an inner courtyard with trees and a small fountain, ornate old plaster ceilings, worn stone stairs, and rooms that are all different — from around 30 sq m up to a suite of over 100 sq m that still keeps its crystal chandeliers, antique fireplace, and original parquet floors. There's a small classic bar and a basement spa with a steam room and quiet treatment area. It's a 5-minute walk to Prešeren Square and the Triple Bridge (Tromostovje) by architect Jože Plečnik, and 10 minutes to Ljubljana Castle. Rooms run warm with wood floors, exposed wooden beams and good-quality bedding, and some look onto the castle wall. The two things reviewers agree on are staff who learn your name and made-to-order breakfast brought to your table, cooked fresh rather than laid out as a buffet. B&B Hotel Ljubljana Park is a 215-room budget hotel in the Tabor district, right beside Ljubljana's central train and bus station — step out the door and you're on a train in under 5 minutes, whether you're headed for Lake Bled or onward to Vienna. It's a modern blue-and-white block run by the French B&B chain, known across Europe for clean, simple rooms at a friendly rate. The detail reviewers keep mentioning is the rooftop, open to guests for a drink, with a full view of Ljubljana Castle on the hill opposite. The Central Market and the Triple Bridge in the Old Town are an 8-10 minute walk, so it works for both people passing through and people staying to explore. An 8.2 on Agoda and 8.3 on Booking back up the value that so many guests describe. It suits travelers who want to save money in a European capital where the cost of living is still reasonable. Overall we give it 8.2/10.

Preguntas frecuentes
