Where to stay in Espiritu Santo — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Espiritu Santo is the largest island in Vanuatu and a paradise for anyone who loves the water. Its world-class draw is the SS President Coolidge, a luxury liner turned WWII troop carrier that sank in 1942. At over 200 metres long, it's widely rated one of the best wreck dives on the planet. Beyond it lie crystal-clear blue holes, the powder-white sands of Champagne Beach, and island villages that still live by tradition. The gateway town of Luganville is a sleepy port that serves as base camp for it all. If you're after clear seas without the crowds, this is the place.
Why stay in Espiritu Santo
A legendary wreck dive
The SS President Coolidge, over 200m long and sunk since 1942, still holds guns, jeeps, helmets, chandeliers and the famous porcelain statue 'The Lady'.
The Pacific's clearest blue holes

Beaches without the crowds
Champagne Beach and Port Olry serve up fine white sand and turquoise water that feel a world away from busier Pacific resorts.
An underwater war museum
At Million Dollar Point, US forces dumped millions of dollars of trucks, jeeps and gear into the sea after WWII — now a surreal dive and snorkel site.

When is the best time to visit?+

Do I need a dive certification for the Coolidge?+
The wreck sits at 20–70m, with the bow starting around 20m, so certified divers can explore it. If you're not certified, you can still snorkel Million Dollar Point or visit the WWII relics on land.
