Where to stay in Abu Dhabi — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
If Dubai is the sibling that never sits still, Abu Dhabi is the one sipping coffee, perfectly relaxed. The capital of the United Arab Emirates is oil-rich but has poured its wealth into art, culture, and architecture rather than a race for the tallest tower. This is home to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, a sweep of pure white marble ranked among the most beautiful in the world; to Louvre Abu Dhabi, where light falls through a latticed dome like a rain of stars; and to Ferrari World on Yas Island, with the fastest roller coaster on the planet. It's the pick for travellers who want Middle Eastern luxury without Dubai's frenetic pace.
Why stay in Abu Dhabi
One of the world's most beautiful mosques
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque is built from pure white marble, set with floral inlays and vast crystal chandeliers. Entry is free, modest dress required — and every angle photographs beautifully, especially at sunset.
The Middle East's art capital
Louvre Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat Island draws art lovers under a perforated dome that scatters light like falling stars. A Guggenheim and the Zayed National Museum are on the way too.
World-class theme parks on Yas Island
Yas Island packs Ferrari World (home to the world's fastest coaster), Warner Bros. World, and Yas Waterworld into one spot — unbeatable for families with kids.
Luxe, but calmer than Dubai
Abu Dhabi feels more laid-back: less traffic, less rush, more breathing room. Ideal if you want both polish and peace in a single trip.

🚆 Getting around Abu Dhabi
Zayed International Airport (AUH)
Abu Dhabi's main airport, about 32 km from downtown. A taxi to the city takes around 40 minutes, or take the A1 bus to the central bus station.
Taxis & ride-hailing
Metered taxis are safe, plentiful and run 24/7. Apps like Careem and Uber offer easy door-to-door rides across every district.
Public buses + Hafilat card
Buses cover the city with fares from about AED 2. You'll need a Hafilat smart card (around AED 10) to tap on — buses don't take cash.
Car hire / island bridges
The city is an island linked by bridges. A car helps for Yas, Saadiyat or trips out of town; roads are good, traffic is light, and you drive on the right.
Cash, cards & currency
The currency is the dirham (AED). Cards are widely accepted at shops and hotels, but carry some cash for small stalls and souks.

How is Abu Dhabi different from Dubai, and where should I go?+
Dubai is all shopping, skyscrapers and spectacle; Abu Dhabi leans into culture, art and calmer luxury. The two are only about 1.5 hours apart by car, so many people combine them — base in Dubai and day-trip over. But if mosques, museums and theme parks are your thing, stay 2-3 nights in Abu Dhabi.
What's the dress code for the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque?+
Dress modestly with your body covered. Women should cover their hair and wear loose clothing over arms and legs; men should wear long trousers, not shorts or tank tops. Entry is free and robes can be borrowed if you're underdressed. Visit late afternoon to dodge the heat and get the best photos.
When is the best time to visit Abu Dhabi?+
The winter months of November to March are best, with temperatures around 25–32°C and pleasant for outdoor sightseeing. Summer (Jun–Aug) is extremely hot, often above 40°C, so it's better suited to indoor attractions and malls.
