Where to stay in Sharjah — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Sharjah is the cultural capital of the Arab world (named by UNESCO back in 1998) and the UAE's third-largest city, sitting right across the road from Dubai but feeling like a different world entirely — quieter, more traditional, and built around museums. Highlights include the Al Qasba waterfront with its 60-metre Eye of the Emirates wheel, the golden Al Noor Mosque, and the lovingly restored Heart of Sharjah heritage quarter. Good to know: Sharjah is a completely dry emirate — no bars, no liquor stores, no alcohol anywhere. It's a great base for families and culture lovers who want a calmer trip, with hotel rates well below Dubai's.
Why stay in Sharjah
Capital of museums
The Museum of Islamic Civilization (5,000+ artefacts), the Art Museum, and the Heart of Sharjah heritage quarter — all in one walkable city.
Cheaper than Dubai
Hotels and food cost noticeably less than Dubai, yet central Dubai is just a 30–40 minute drive — ideal for doing both cities on one trip.
Made for families
The Al Qasba waterfront, the Ferris wheel, Al Montazah water park, the aquarium, and the Al Majaz musical fountain make for easy full days out.
Calm and traditional
As a dry emirate focused on culture and family, Sharjah is far quieter than Dubai — the place to see a more authentic, low-key side of the UAE.

🚆 Getting around Sharjah
Sharjah Airport (SHJ)
Buses 14, 15, 88 and 99 reach the city in 30–35 min for 8 AED. SHJ is the home hub of Air Arabia.
Mowasalat buses
SRTA's blue-and-orange buses run roughly every 15 min across the main districts. Pay with a Sayer card or the RIHLATI app.
Taxis
Metered taxis start around 11.50 AED, with standard, ladies' and family options. Call 600525252 or book via app.
To and from Dubai
Central Dubai is a 30–40 min drive by bus or taxi — avoid rush hour, when the border roads jam. Many people stay here and day-trip into Dubai.
Paying your way
Tap on with a Sayer card, much like Dubai's NOL card. Most shops take cards, but keep a little AED cash for stalls and souks.

When is the best time to visit Sharjah?+
Winter, December to February, is ideal — around 15–28°C, sunny, and almost no rain, perfect for waterfront strolls and outdoor sights. Summer (May–August) is very hot, often topping 40°C.
