Where to stay in Sousse — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Sousse is Tunisia's flagship beach resort city, sitting on the Gulf of Hammamet about 140 km south of Tunis. Its draw is having it all in one place — a UNESCO World Heritage medina (inscribed 1988) anchored by an 8th-century ribat and Aghlabid-era Great Mosque, the long white sands of Boujaffar Beach right in the city, and the polished marina resort of Port El Kantaoui with its 340-berth harbour and golf course. It works brilliantly for families, couples and budget-minded travellers who want the Mediterranean without European prices. Monastir airport is just 20 km away, and the Sahel Metro makes day trips to Monastir and Mahdia effortless.

Which area of Sousse should I stay in?+
For old-town atmosphere with the medina and beach on foot, base yourself in the Medina or along Boujaffar Beach. For a quieter, upscale marina-side resort, choose Port El Kantaoui (about 10 km out, but easy to reach the centre by taxi). Families and laid-back couples tend to favour Kantaoui.
When is the best time to visit Sousse?+
May to October is best, with reliable sun and swimmable sea — the water is warmest in August (around 25°C). To dodge peak heat and crowds, aim for May–June or September–October. Winters are mild and fine for the medina, but too cool for the beach.
How do I get from the airport to Sousse?+
Fly into Monastir Airport (about 20 km away) and take the Sahel Metro from the airport's own station straight into Sousse — cheap and easy. A metered taxi or hotel transfer also works. Arriving at Tunis–Carthage, take a louage or train down (around 2 hours).
