Where to stay in Sidi Bou Said — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Picture a clifftop village over the Mediterranean where every house is whitewashed and trimmed in cobalt blue, bougainvillea spills over the lanes, and centuries-old cafés look out across the Gulf of Tunis. That's Sidi Bou Said, Tunisia's most photogenic village, about 20 km northeast of the capital, Tunis. It's named after the 13th-century Sufi saint Abu Said al-Beji, who settled here in 1207; by the early 1900s artists and aristocrats were building summer villas, turning it into the country's leading artists' haven and photo stop. This isn't a big city — only around 5,000 people actually live here. The magic is in slowing down: wandering the blue lanes, sipping mint tea, and watching the sun drop into the sea.
