Where to stay in Sibiu — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Ask anyone which Transylvanian town is the prettiest and Sibiu almost always tops the list. This compact city on the Cibin River was a European Capital of Culture in 2007 and the heart of Romania's Saxon community for over 800 years. Step into the old town and you land on Piața Mare, a vast square ringed by pastel facades and burnt-orange rooftops. The quirk that everyone remembers: many roofs have eyebrow-shaped attic vents that look like half-closed eyes peering down at you, which is why Sibiu is famously called the city where houses have eyes. It is calmer than Brașov, endlessly walkable, and one of the best places in Romania for a slow, characterful Central European break.
