Where to stay in Brasov — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Brașov is the medieval heart of Transylvania — a Saxon old town of orange-tiled roofs ringed by 15th-century walls, with the Gothic Black Church rising over the main square and a Hollywood-style BRAȘOV sign perched on Mount Tâmpa above it. What really sets it apart is location: it's the best castle base in Romania. Bran Castle (the so-called Dracula's Castle), Peleș Castle and Râșnov Fortress are all within an hour's drive, and the Poiana Brașov ski resort sits just 20 minutes away. Spend your days wandering cobbled lanes and your evenings with mulled wine in the square, then strike out for castles and mountains the next morning. Few towns in Europe pack this much history, scenery and value into one walkable centre.
Why stay in Brasov
Romania's best castle base
Bran Castle is 25 km away, Râșnov Fortress sits roughly halfway, and Peleș Castle in Sinaia is about 90 minutes off. You can do all three in a single day trip from Brașov.
Intact Saxon old town
Council Square (Piața Sfatului), Romania's largest Gothic church, and Rope Street — one of Europe's narrowest lanes — are all a short stroll from one another.
Mountains on the doorstep
Ride the cable car or hike up Mount Tâmpa for panoramic views, then head 20 minutes to Poiana Brașov for skiing in winter and hiking in summer.
Excellent value
Lodging, food and transport in Romania cost a fraction of Western Europe. A hearty meal on the medieval square still won't dent your wallet.
