Namibia — find the right stay, from deciding to booking
“The world's tallest dunes, an Etosha safari, the Skeleton Coast, and the Himba people”
Namibia is the most thrilling land of desert and safari in Africa — Sossusvlei with the world's tallest red dunes and the dead trees of Deadvlei, Etosha National Park's safari around a salt pan, Swakopmund the German colonial port city by the ocean, the mysterious Skeleton Coast, and the Himba people who keep their traditional ways alive — a country with one of the world's sparsest populations and one of its most beautiful night skies.

🚆 Getting around Namibia
4WD rental
The main way to travel in Namibia — the gravel roads are long, so rent a 4WD in Windhoek and pack a tent or book lodges in advance.
Domestic flights
Fly from Windhoek to airstrips near Sossusvlei (Mpala) or Etosha to save time on the gravel roads.
Intercity buses
Intercape and local services connect Windhoek, Swakopmund, and Lüderitz — affordable but slow.
Safari tours
Local tour operators offer all-in safari packages with car, accommodation, and guide — ideal for those who don't want to drive.
The B1 main road
The main paved road connects Windhoek, Etosha, and Otjiwarongo, drivable in a regular car, but the distances are long.
🛂 Etiquette & culture in Namibia
Respect the tribes
Before photographing the Himba or San people, always ask permission and go with a local guide.
Safari rules
Stay in the vehicle at all times in the park, don't get out in areas with wildlife, and close your windows when watching lions.
Conserve water
Namibia is the driest country in sub-Saharan Africa, so water is precious — use it sparingly.
Sun protection
The desert sun is very strong — wear a hat and sunscreen and drink plenty of water at all times.
Warm greetings
Namibians are smiling and friendly, and a "Hello" in English works everywhere in the country.

How many days should I spend in Namibia?+
10–14 days — 1–2 days in Windhoek + 2–3 days at Sossusvlei + 2 days at Swakopmund + 3–4 days at Etosha. The distances are long, so plan well.
What about visas for Thais?+
Check the latest visa/VOA conditions with the embassy before traveling, as the policy may change.
Do I need a 4WD?+
A 4WD is highly recommended — the routes to Sossusvlei, the Skeleton Coast, and Damaraland are gravel. For the main Windhoek-Swakopmund-Etosha route, a regular car will do.
Is Namibia safe?+
It's safer than many African countries and the locals are friendly, but watch your belongings in the big cities and don't walk alone at night in Windhoek.
Tips before you go to Namibia
- Rent a 4WD and book campsites and lodges at least 6 months ahead for the tourist season (Jun–Sep).
- Visit the Sossusvlei dunes at dawn, before the sun gets harsh and the crowds arrive.
- Carry Namibian dollar or South African rand (ZAR) cash for communities and small shops.
- Drive only during daylight — avoid driving at night because wildlife crosses the roads.
- Namibia has one of the clearest night skies in the world — bring a camera and a tripod for star photography.
- Drink plenty of water, at least 3 liters a day in the desert, to avoid heatstroke.
