Where to stay in Podgorica — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks

Podgorica is Montenegro's capital and largest city, spread across the flat Zeta plain where the Morača River runs down toward Lake Skadar. Most travellers blow straight through on their way to the coast or the mountains, but the city has a quiet appeal of its own: the cable-stayed Millennium Bridge, a gold-laden Orthodox cathedral, striking socialist-era brutalist blocks, and the Ottoman lanes of the old Stara Varoš quarter. More than anything, Podgorica is Montenegro's main air gateway (airport code TGD) and the natural launch pad for day trips to Lake Skadar and Ostrog Monastery. If you're flying in or spending a night before moving on, it's well worth slowing down for.

🚆 Getting around Podgorica

✈️

Podgorica Airport (TGD)

Just 11 km south of the centre. A metered taxi runs about 15 euros and takes around 15 minutes. There are ATMs and a currency exchange in the terminal.

🚌

Airport bus

Three operators (MS Tours, Zejdin, BTC Zeta) run between the airport and the central bus station for 1.5–2.9 euros, though there's no service late at night or early morning.

🚆

Train

Aerodrom station is a 10-minute walk from the terminal; trains reach the city centre in 7–10 minutes and continue to Virpazar (Lake Skadar) and Bar for a couple of euros.

🚶

On foot + Bolt app

The centre is compact and easily walked. For longer hops, the Bolt ride-hailing app is cheaper and more convenient than flagging a taxi.

💶

Euro (EUR)

Montenegro uses the euro despite not being in the eurozone. Cards work in larger venues, but carry cash for markets, buses and small shops.
