Where to stay in Addis Ababa — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Picture a capital perched 2,300 metres above sea level — cool, spring-like weather all year, right in the heart of Africa. That's Addis Ababa, a name that means 'new flower' in Amharic. This is the home of Lucy, the famous 3.2-million-year-old hominid skeleton, the headquarters of the African Union, and the birthplace of the coffee ceremony that the whole world has come to love. Here's where to stay, what to eat, and how to get around the city without the stress.
Why stay in Addis Ababa
Meet Lucy in person
The National Museum of Ethiopia holds the 3.2-million-year-old Australopithecus skeleton — one of the most important finds in human evolution.
The original coffee ceremony
Ethiopia is coffee's homeland. Beans are roasted, ground by hand, and brewed in a clay jebena, served over three rounds — a ritual worth slowing down for.
Cool weather all year
At 2,300m, temperatures hover around 19-23°C year-round. Forget sweltering heat — Addis is mild and comfortable almost every day.
Gateway to all of Ethiopia
Bole Airport is one of Africa's biggest hubs, with easy connections to Lalibela, Gondar, and every region of the country.
