Cyprus — find the right stay, from deciding to booking

“Aphrodite's Rock, Roman mosaics, the last divided capital, and the deep-blue Mediterranean”

Cyprus is a sun-drenched island combining world-class archaeology, clear seas, and a blend of Greek-Cypriot culture — Nicosia's Venetian walls, the last divided capital; the World Heritage Roman mosaics at Paphos; Aphrodite's Rock by the sea; the beaches of Ayia Napa; the villages of the Troodos Mountains; and the world-famous halloumi cheese.

The most popular way to get around; the roads are good, but remember Cyprus drives on the left, British-style.

🚌

Main bus lines

Intercity buses connect the big cities (Limassol-Nicosia-Larnaca), cheap but infrequent.

✈️

Two airports

Larnaca (LCA) is the main one, and Paphos (PFO) is served by European budget airlines.

🚕

Taxis and Uber

Metered taxis and Bolt/Uber are available in big cities; for fixed rides, agree the fare before boarding.

🛥️

Cruises and tour boats

Boat tours to Aphrodite's Rock and sea caves depart from Paphos and Limassol.

🛂 Etiquette & culture in Cyprus

🤝

Philotimo

A spirit of generosity and honor — the warm guest-welcoming culture of the Cypriots.

Cyprus coffee and slow time

Greek coffee brewed in a copper pot, sipped slowly with no rush, in true Mediterranean style.

🎊

Limassol Carnival

The island's biggest carnival before Lent, with colorful parades and costumes.

🗐

Orthodox churches

Dress modestly to visit churches, with shoulders and legs covered for women; most are open to visitors.

FAQ — visiting Cyprus

How many days should I spend in Cyprus?+

5–7 days — 2 days in Paphos (mosaics-Aphrodite's Rock) + 1–2 days Limassol + 1–2 days Ayia Napa + half a day in Nicosia. With time, add a day in Troodos.

Do Thai travelers need a visa?+

Yes, Thais need a visa — Cyprus accepts the Schengen visa, or apply for a Cyprus visa in advance. Check the latest conditions.

Is driving in Cyprus difficult?+

Cyprus drives on the left (a British legacy) with the steering wheel on the right; most travelers adapt quickly with care. Roads are good, signs are in English, and car rental is very convenient.

How is Cyprus different from Greece?+

Cyprus is a medium-sized island, drives on the left, uses British plugs, has intense archaeology, and a unique UN buffer zone. Greece has hundreds of islands, with similar costs.

Tips before you go to Cyprus

  1. Cyprus drives on the left — double-check before setting off.
  2. Renting a car is the best value for exploring the island; buses aren't convenient between cities.
  3. Real halloumi should be bought from local markets, not European supermarkets.
  4. July–August are scorching and crowded — go to the beach early.
  5. A Schengen visa can be used to enter Cyprus, but Cyprus isn't yet a full Schengen member.
  6. The morning markets in Nicosia and Limassol open early — great for fresh produce and local food at good prices.
