Cape Verde — find the right stay, from deciding to booking

“White-sand Sal, the morna music of Mindelo, the Fogo volcano and Creole culture in the Atlantic”

Cape Verde is a volcanic archipelago in the Atlantic that blends white sand, green valleys and the soul of Creole music — the islands of Sal and Boa Vista draw visitors with fine white-sand beaches, all-inclusive resorts, kitesurfing and nesting sea turtles; Mindelo on São Vicente is a city of music where the carnival is fiery and the morna of Cesária Évora still echoes; the Fogo volcano stands amid its plume of smoke; and Santo Antão hides green valleys for hikers. Touring this archipelago means island-hopping by air, but every island rewards you with an atmosphere you can't find anywhere else.

FAQ — visiting Cape Verde

How many days do you need in Cape Verde?+

7–10 days — 3–4 days on Sal (beach and kitesurfing) + a flight on to Mindelo for 2 days (music and harbor) + add Fogo (volcano) or Santo Antão (hiking) if you have time.

Do Thai passport holders need a Cape Verde visa?+

Check the latest visa / EASE e-visa requirements with the embassy before you travel, as the policy may change.

How do you travel between the islands?+

Domestic flights (TACV/Bestfly) are fastest, with frequent service on the Sal–Santiago–São Vicente routes, or take the CV Interilhas ferry, which is cheaper but slow.

Is Cape Verde safe?+

Generally safe for travelers, but watch your bag in markets and busy areas as with any trip, and get a health check before you travel.

Tips before you go to Cape Verde

  1. Inter-island flights are much faster than ferries — book domestic flights ahead.
  2. Winds are strong year-round on Sal — great for kitesurfing, but always wear sunscreen.
  3. Carry CVE cash for markets and aluguers; cards work only at hotels and bigger shops.
  4. Slow-cooked cachupa (Cachupa Rica) must be ordered ahead at local spots — well worth it for the price.
  5. Start the Fogo climb early, take a local guide, and bring good shoes for the lava soil.
  6. In turtle season (Jun–Oct), book the nighttime viewing tour on Boa Vista ahead.
