Where to stay in Sal — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
The island of Sal is the gateway to Cape Verde, an Atlantic archipelago off the coast of West Africa. It's home to the country's main international airport, so most visitors land here first. Sal's headline draw is Santa Maria's 8-kilometre stretch of white sand, turquoise water, and the steady trade winds that make it one of the world's great kitesurfing destinations. With sunshine on roughly 350 days a year, it's a year-round beach escape. The island itself is small, flat and desert-dry, but its charm lies in the slow pace, the famous Cape Verdean morabeza (warm hospitality), fresh seafood, live morna music, and some of the best ocean sunsets you'll find anywhere. It suits sun-seekers, watersports lovers, and anyone keen to dive with lemon sharks and sea turtles.
Why stay in Sal

A kitesurfer's mecca
Reliable trade winds from November to April plus Kite Beach's mix of flat water and waves make Sal a top training and riding spot. It hosts the World Kite Surfing Circuit.
