Which neighborhood should I stay in for a first visit to Rio?+
Copacabana is the easiest pick — right on the beach, three metro stations and stays for every budget. Ipanema and Leblon are smarter and feel safer, ideal for couples and families, while budget travelers love local, well-priced Botafogo.
Is Rio safe, and what should I watch out for?+
The South Zone tourist areas (Copacabana, Ipanema, Leblon) are reasonably safe by day. Avoid flashing phones, cameras or valuables, especially at night, use a taxi or Uber rather than walking quiet streets, and never enter a favela without a guide.
When is the best time to visit Rio?+
Summer (Dec–Mar) brings the best beach weather but heat, humidity and crowds. Carnival (Feb–Mar) is the liveliest time but hotels are pricey and book out fast. For thinner crowds and milder weather, aim for May–October.
