Armenia — find the right stay, from deciding to booking
“The first Christian nation, rock-hewn monasteries, views of Ararat, and famous brandy”
Armenia is the world's first Christian nation (301 AD), hiding ancient monasteries and stunning scenery — the rock-hewn World Heritage Geghard Monastery, Khor Virap Monastery in the shadow of Mount Ararat, the Greek-Roman Garni Temple, deep-blue Lake Sevan on the highlands, Republic Square in the heart of Yerevan, and the world-famous Armenian brandy — easy travel, an affordable budget, and a charm that's still little known.

Armenian brandy once earned praise from Winston Churchill, and lavash, the thin flatbread, is on UNESCO's heritage list.

How many days should I spend in Armenia?+
5–7 days — Yerevan 2 days + a Garni-Geghard trip 1 day + Khor Virap 1 day + Lake Sevan 1 day + Dilijan 1 day or Gyumri 1 day covers the main highlights.
Do Thai citizens need a visa?+
Check the latest visa conditions with the embassy before you travel (there is an e-visa system).
Is Armenia safe?+
It's generally safe for tourists, with little crime against visitors, but keep an eye on the border situation and avoid areas your foreign ministry advises against.
What currency is used and how do I pay in Armenia?+
The dram (AMD) is used; in Yerevan many places take cards, but carry cash outside the city. You can change money at good rates at the airport or banks in Yerevan.
Tips before you go to Armenia
- Book a shared car tour with other travelers at your hostel or an agency in Yerevan — cheaper than a private rental.
- See the view of Khor Virap Monastery with Mount Ararat early in the morning, before the haze rises.
- Fresh lavash from a market stall like Vernissage is very cheap and tastier than in restaurants.
- Use the Yandex Go app to hail a car in Yerevan — clear pricing, no haggling.
- Buy Ararat brandy at duty-free or a Yerevan supermarket for a better price than at the airport.
- Bring modest clothes (not short, shoulders covered) for entering any monastery.
