Where to stay in Algiers — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Algiers — nicknamed 'Alger la Blanche' (Algiers the White) — is Algeria's capital, rising in tiers from the Mediterranean bay up the surrounding hills, its whitewashed buildings glowing when seen from the water. Its beating heart is the Casbah, a UNESCO World Heritage citadel of stepped lanes, Ottoman palaces and ancient mosques. The newer downtown is laced with Parisian-style boulevards left by the French, making Algiers a layered blend of Arab, Berber, Ottoman and French influences. Most hotels cluster downtown around rue Didouche Mourad, or up the quieter hillside neighbourhoods of Telemly and Hydra.
