Settha Palace Hotel

From ~$157

📍 On Pang Kham Road in central Vientiane — about a 3-minute walk to the Nam Phu fountain, 10 minutes on foot to the Patuxai victory monument, and a 15-minute drive from Wattay International Airport (VTE).

1932 French colonial mansion10-min walk to Patuxaitropical garden poolLa Belle Epoque French-Lao dining

Settha Palace Hotel is a near-century-old French colonial mansion, built in 1932 on Pang Kham Road in central Vientiane. It served as a guesthouse during French Indochina, then as official residences, before an Australian-Lao group restored it over several years and reopened it as a 5-star hotel in 1999. There are just 29 rooms, laid over Italian marble floors with Lao teak furniture made by local craftsmen, high ceilings, slow-turning ceiling fans, and a few rooms that open onto a balcony over the leafy interior garden. The centrepiece is the pool shaded by tropical trees, and La Belle Epoque — a French-Lao restaurant that locals and resident diplomats rate as the best in town. It's a 3-minute walk to the Nam Phu fountain, 10 minutes to Patuxai, and the Mekong is not far. Rates start around $155 a night, the steepest in Vientiane, but you're paying for heritage you can't fake. We give it 9.0/10 — best for couples, history-minded travelers, and business guests who want character over a glass tower.

  • 1932 colonial mansion, meticulously restored in 1999
  • 3 minutes to Nam Phu, 10 to Patuxai, Mekong within walking range
  • La Belle Epoque is the most-praised French-Lao kitchen in town
  • Highest rates in Vientiane, starting near $155 a night
  • Old building — some rooms and bathrooms feel dated next to new hotels

Settha Palace Hotel — hotel No. 1 #1 Colonial boutique · heart of the old quarter 9.1

Settha Palace Hotel

From ~$166

📍 In the heart of the old French quarter (Chanthabuly) — a 10-to-12-minute walk to Patuxay (the Victory Gate), with the Nam Phu fountain and the morning market close by, and Wattay airport (VTE) about 15 minutes away by car.

🏛️ 1932 French colonial building, restored 1999 🛁 High ceilings, Italian marble floors, rosewood furniture 🍷 La Belle Epoque French restaurant with wine cellar

Settha Palace Hotel is a 29-room French colonial boutique inside a 1932 building in the heart of Vientiane's old Chanthabuly district, a 10-to-12-minute walk from Patuxay (the city's Arc de Triomphe) and about 15 minutes by car from Wattay airport. What sets it apart is the painstaking 1999 restoration that kept the original bones intact — ceilings close to 4 metres, Italian marble floors polished smooth over nearly a century, and hand-made Indochine-style rosewood furniture. With so few rooms, staff learn your name fast and you end up feeling like a regular. There's a quiet pool set in a tropical garden, and La Belle Epoque serves classic French food with a wine cellar that's genuinely rare in Laos. Rates start around $165 a night for a five-star city stay, with Agoda at 9.1 and Booking at 9.2 — best for couples, comfort-seekers, and anyone who falls for colonial architecture with a real story.

  • 1932 French colonial building with a genuine period feel
  • Warm, family-style service across just 29 rooms
  • Central old-quarter spot, easy walk to Patuxay
  • Historic building, so some bathrooms run smaller than new hotels
  • Wi-Fi and in-room tech are simple, in keeping with the building's age

Crowne Plaza Vientiane is the only international 5-star hotel in Laos under the IHG flag, opened in 2018 on Khounboulom Road in the heart of the Vientiane business district. It runs 198 rooms and suites across a modern high-rise, many of them looking out over the city skyline with Patuxai in the distance. The three things it sells are an outdoor infinity-edge pool that's genuinely rare in Vientiane, the first Executive Club Lounge in the country — free afternoon tea and evening canapes for Club Floor guests — and Indochine, a French-Indochinese restaurant done up in colonial style. You can walk to the Thai embassy and the government ministries, the Mekong and the morning market sit about 1.5 km away, and it's a 15-minute drive from Wattay airport. Rates start near $110 a night, a real bargain for the 5-star standard you get. We give it 8.8/10 — best for business travelers and families who want a global brand in the Lao capital.

  • Only IHG international 5-star in Laos, full global-brand standard
  • Infinity-edge pool plus the country's first Club Lounge
  • 15 minutes from the airport, 10-minute walk to Patuxai
  • Quiet business-district setting, not the lively Mekong riverfront

Lao Plaza Hotel

From ~$80

📍 On Samsenthai Road, across from Vientiane Centre — about 5 minutes' walk to Talat Sao (Morning Market), 10 to the Mekong riverside, and a 10-minute drive from Wattay Airport (VTE).

🏛️ First officially rated five-star hotel in Laos 🏊 Pool set in a leafy garden courtyard 🍽️ 6 restaurants plus a wide breakfast buffet
first 5-star in Laoscentral Samsenthaiwalk to Talat Saonear the Mekong

Lao Plaza Hotel was the first hotel to earn an official five-star rating in Laos, and it has run continuously since 1998 on Samsenthai Road in the dead centre of Vientiane. The cream-coloured classic block holds 142 rooms and sits across from Vientiane Centre, so it doubles as the neighbourhood's main landmark. Reviewers keep flagging the same things: a tall, airy lobby, a pool tucked into a leafy garden courtyard, and a spread of 6 restaurants covering Lao-Thai, Chinese, Japanese and international. The breakfast buffet pulls an 8.7/10 on Booking, and the location scores 9.1/10 — 5 minutes on foot to Talat Sao (the Morning Market), 15 to the Patuxai monument, and 10 to the Mekong and its night market. From Wattay Airport it's a 10-minute drive. Rates start around $80 a night, which is why families and business travellers keep coming back. Overall 8.5/10.

  • Dead-central on Samsenthai — 5-minute walk to Talat Sao and the Mekong
  • Classic five-star from about $80 a night, with breakfast
  • 6 restaurants in-building plus a wide breakfast buffet
  • Late-90s classic look, not modern boutique
  • Some rooms show wear — marked carpet, weak shower pressure

Salana Boutique Hotel — hotel No. 3 #3 boutique in the heritage quarter · 5-min walk to the Mekong 9

📍 Dead centre of the Chanthabuly heritage quarter on the Mekong side of Vientiane — 5 minutes' walk to the riverside Night Market, 3 minutes to Wat Ong Teu, about 10 minutes by tuk-tuk to Patuxai, and roughly 15 minutes by car from Wattay International Airport (VTE).

🏛️ Heart of the Chanthabuly heritage quarter 🌊 5-minute walk to the Mekong riverfront 🍳 Made-to-order breakfast guests rate highly
Chanthabuly heritage quarter5-min walk to the Mekongstandout breakfast buffetLao-modern boutique

Salana Boutique Hotel is a 38-room, 4-star boutique sitting right inside Chanthabuly, the old colonial core of Vientiane. The Mekong embankment and the nightly riverside market are about a 5-minute walk; Wat Ong Teu Mahawihan, with its 5.8-metre bronze Buddha, is just 3 minutes further, and you can flag a tuk-tuk to Patuxai and Wat Sisaket in well under 10. The look mixes Lao teak, handwoven local textiles and clean modern furniture without trying too hard, and every room gets a small balcony — a few upper floors look out over the old district's red rooftops. The made-to-order breakfast buffet (fresh Lao pho, just-baked French bread, eggs cooked to order, tropical fruit) is the one thing nearly every review singles out. Rates start around $80 a night, the aggregate score is 9.0/10 off Agoda 9.0 and Booking 9.1 — a good fit for couples, culture travelers and anyone who wants to soak up Laos slowly from the middle of the old town.

  • Centre of the heritage quarter — walk to the Mekong, Night Market and Wat Ong Teu
  • Made-to-order breakfast buffet that reviews call the city's best
  • Warm staff who learn your name and book your tuk-tuks
  • Superior rooms are tight at 22-25 sqm for big luggage

1930s IndochineMichelin Key 2024rooftop infinity poolcentral Setthathirath

Lao Poet Hotel is a 55-room, 8-floor boutique that a lot of travelers now call the best-designed hotel in Vientiane. It sits on land that once belonged to Maha Sila Viravong — the poet and historian known as Maha Keo who translated the Lao epic Thao Hung Thao Cheuang — and his descendants asked the architects to retell 1930s Indochine with taste: geometric encaustic floor tiles, thin wrought-iron railings, high ceilings, slow ceiling fans, all paired with moss-green and cream modern furniture. The headline feature is the top-floor infinity pool and Le Belvédère bar, which guests rate as the best city view in town — temple roofs, the golden Pha That Luang stupa and the Mekong in one frame. Le Hanuman serves contemporary Lao-French. It stands in Ban Haysoke on the Setthathirath corridor, a 10-minute walk from Patuxai, and opened in 2018. Rooms from about $100 a night.

  • 1930s Indochine design that photographs well from every corner
  • Rooftop infinity pool with the best city view in Vientiane
  • Old-town location you can walk from to Patuxai, the market and the Mekong
  • Entry-level Deluxe rooms run a tight 26-28 sqm
  • From about $100 a night, well above the Vientiane norm of $45-70

Ansara Hotel is a small 28-room French-colonial boutique hidden down a quiet lane behind Quai Fa Ngum, the Mekong riverfront road, in central Vientiane — about a 5-minute walk to the riverside night market. What sets it apart is the cluster of whitewashed colonial buildings scattered through a shaded tropical garden, with a small square plunge pool as the centerpiece. Rooms keep their original rosewood floors and are dressed with handwoven Lao silk cushions and locally sourced craft pieces. The in-house restaurant La Signature is widely rated the best French food in the city, with an imported French wine list and an open-air terrace under the trees. Reviewers consistently praise the warm service and staff who remember your name. It scores 8.9/10 (Agoda 8.9, Booking 9.0) and runs roughly $90 to $165 a night — a fit for couples and culture-minded travelers who want to soak up Vientiane slowly.

Lao Plaza Hotel was the first property in Laos to earn an official 5-star rating, and it has anchored the Chanthabuly business district on Samsenthai Road since 1997. The 6-storey building blends classic European lines with Lan Xang detailing, and its 142 rooms run warm and roomy — upper floors catch the golden spire of That Luang over a low Vientiane skyline. Facilities are the real draw: 3 restaurants spanning Lao, Asian and European menus, a garden swimming pool, a gym, sauna, a Lao-massage spa, and a business-grade ballroom. The Lao National Museum is a 5-minute walk, the Vientiane Morning Market about 7, and Wattay International Airport sits just 4 km (10-15 minutes) away. Rooms start near $83 a night. Salana Boutique Hotel is a 4-star, 36-room boutique on the corner of Chao Anou and Setthathirath in the Wat Chan Riverfront quarter of central Vientiane. The cream-toned, six-storey block reads plain from outside, but the interior is confident contemporary Lao — high ceilings, warm timber floors, and handwoven sin (Lao silk) panels framed on the lobby wall. Deluxe rooms run 28 to 32 square metres, noticeably bigger than most boutiques in town, and breakfast at Anou Bistro & Bar turns into a low-key cocktail bar by night. Reviews repeat the same line: the team learns your name and will arrange a day trip on the spot. The Mekong promenade and Chao Anouvong Park sit 2 minutes away, the Nam Phou fountain 5, the night market 6, and Wattay Airport (VTE) about 15 minutes by car. From roughly $70 a night, it suits couples and culture-minded travelers who want a real neighborhood base within walking distance of everything.

Green Park Boutique Hotel is a 4-star, 37-room boutique in the Sisattanak embassy district of Vientiane, designed in classic Lao style — steep Lan Xang roofs, warm white walls, and dark teak woodwork wrapped around a tropical garden pool planted with palms and frangipani. It feels more like a small jungle resort than a city hotel. Every room opens onto a private wooden balcony; some Pool Access rooms step straight into the water. Rates start around $74 a night and climb to roughly $149 for the suites. The hotel runs a free shuttle into town and lends bikes for the easy 15-minute ride to Patuxai and That Luang. Real guest scores back it up — 8.8/10 across more than 694 Booking reviews and 8.7 on Agoda. It suits couples and honeymooners who want quiet boutique charm over a big downtown chain.

Landmark Mekong Riverside Hotel is a five-star riverside property on Souphanouvong Avenue, and the pitch lands the moment you walk in: all 200-odd rooms come with a generous balcony, and the river-facing ones look due west across the Mekong to the Thai bank, so you get the sun dropping over Thailand every evening. Rooms run a contemporary earth-tone look softened by warm wood and panels of Lao woven textile. The big outdoor pool faces the river and is where most guests park themselves; the gym runs 24 hours, and three restaurants and bars mean you never have to leave for a meal. Because it sits out of the centre — roughly 5 km from Patuxai and 4 km from the Nam Phou fountain — the hotel runs a free shuttle into town so you are not chartering a tuk-tuk every time. From about $63 a night, it suits travelers who want the full river view over a central address.

Don Chan Palace Hotel & Convention is the 14-floor tower that has been a Vientiane landmark since it opened in 2004 to host that year's ASEAN Summit. Of its roughly 232 rooms, most face the Mekong — open the curtains at dawn and you look straight across the water to Nong Khai on the Thai side. It sits on Don Chan Island at the end of Fa Ngum Road, a 15-minute walk from Wat Si Muang and Wat Si Saket. Facilities run full convention-hotel: an outdoor riverview pool, a 24-hour gym, sauna, spa, and one of the largest meeting halls in Laos. Guests consistently praise the river views, the room size, and the wide-ranging breakfast. The honest gripes: the building is showing its age, upkeep is patchy, and you're a fair way from the Nam Phou nightlife district. Overall 7.8/10 — best for business travelers in town for a conference and couples who want a full Mekong view.

  • Full Mekong views, with Thailand visible across the water
  • Rooms run larger than the Vientiane average
  • Big convention halls, pool, and a 24-hour gym

📍 On the edge of Fa Ngum Park by the Mekong River — about a 10-to-12-minute walk to the Chao Anouvong walking street, a 5-minute drive from Wattay International Airport (VTE), and roughly a 7-minute tuk-tuk to the Nam Phou fountain district downtown.

🌳 Faces Fa Ngum Park on the Mekong River ✈️ 5-minute drive to Wattay airport 🏊 Outdoor pool, sauna and fitness room
Accor 4-star brandFa Ngum Park by the Mekong5 minutes to Wattay airportpool, sauna and gym

Mercure Vientiane is a 172-room, 4-star Accor hotel on the edge of town, facing Fa Ngum Park on the bank of the Mekong River. The standout fact is the location: Wattay International Airport (VTE) is just a 5-minute drive away, which makes this a default pick for business travelers and people on a connection who want a brand-name room from around $57 a night. The facilities are the other draw — an outdoor pool, sauna, fitness room, restaurant, bar and an in-house nightclub that runs late, so you can fill a day without leaving. Because it sits on the edge of the city, the building is newer and the rooms are roomier than the converted shophouses downtown, but you trade that for a 5-to-7-minute tuk-tuk into the Nam Phou fountain district or a 10-to-12-minute walk to the Chao Anouvong riverside night market. Reviewers praise the smiling staff, the varied breakfast and consistently clean rooms. It rates 8.3/10 and suits workers, transit guests and families who want the brand without the central price.

  • Accor 4-star from about $57 — genuinely good value
  • 5-minute drive to Wattay airport, ideal for transit
  • Pool, sauna, gym and nightclub all on site
  • Edge of town — tuk-tuk needed for the fountain district and temples
  • Modern chain block on a main road, not pretty old Vientiane

Don Chan Palace Hotel & Convention is a five-star that stands alone on Don Chan island in the middle of the Mekong River, built as a 14-floor tower that has held the title of tallest building in Laos since it opened in 2004, when Vientiane hosted the ASEAN Summit. It packs roughly 239 rooms and suites, most facing the river with full views across to Nong Khai on the Thai bank, day and sunset alike. The draws are the largest convention center in Laos, a big curved outdoor pool right on the water, restaurants ranging from an international buffet to a Cantonese room, and a short bridge into town — a 5-minute walk to Chao Anouvong Night Market and Wat Si Muang. Rates start near $46 a night, making it the cheapest five-star in the city. It scores 7.8/10 and suits families, conference travelers, and anyone who wants a river view on a real budget.

S Park Design Hotel Vientiane — hotel No. 9 #9 value pick · design hotel near Patuxai 8.4

📍 Chanthabuly district near Patuxai — about 1.2 km (15 min on foot) to the Patuxai arch, roughly 6 km from Wattay Airport (VTE) at a 15-minute drive, and 5-7 minutes by car to the morning market and Haw Phra Kaew.

🏛️ 1.2 km from the Patuxai arch 🏊 Outdoor pool plus fitness room 💰 4-star from about $51 a night
1.2 km walk to Patuxaioutdoor poolwarm minimalist roomsaffordable 4-star

S Park Design Hotel Vientiane is a roughly 100-room 4-star in the Chanthabuly district, about 1.2 km — a flat 15-minute walk — from the Patuxai arch. What sells most guests is getting the full kit for the money: an outdoor pool, a working fitness room, a buffet breakfast and clean, minimalist wood-and-beige rooms, all from around $51 a night, noticeably under what other 4-stars in town charge. Most rooms are roomy enough for a couple or a small family, and some types add a small balcony over the pool and garden. Real guest scores sit steady at 8.4/10 on Agoda and 8.3 on Booking. It suits travelers who want a landmark-close base in Vientiane without paying for it, plus a pool to cool off in through the hot afternoons and a quieter street than the market core.

  • A flat 1.2 km walk to the Patuxai arch and the landmark core
  • Outdoor pool, fitness room and full buffet breakfast included
  • 4-star from about $51 a night, cheaper than most rivals nearby
  • Mekong riverfront and morning market are a 2-3 km ride away
  • Decor is warm and tidy but stops short of luxury

Mali Namphu Hotel — hotel No. 10 #10 Budget · steps from the Nam Phou fountain 8.1

Mali Namphu Hotel

From ~$26

📍 On Pangkham Road, about 80 metres from the Nam Phou fountain in central Vientiane — a 1-2 minute walk to the French restaurants and cafes ringing the fountain, 10 minutes on foot to the Mekong-side night market, and about 15 minutes to Patuxai. Wattay Airport (VTE) is roughly 15 minutes by car.

🌳 Leafy courtyard at the centre of the building 📍 One minute from the Nam Phou fountain 🥐 Simple breakfast included, served in the garden
minute from Nam Phou fountainleafy colonial courtyardfrom $25 a nightfree breakfast and Wi-Fi

Picture a two-storey cream-yellow French-colonial building tucked off Pangkham Road in central Vientiane: step through the archway and the street noise drops away, because you are standing in a leafy courtyard with tall trees and a wooden table set out for a slow coffee. That is Mali Namphu Hotel, a long-running 25-room mid-budget guesthouse a minute's walk from the Nam Phou fountain, the symbolic heart of town. Rooms wrap the courtyard over two floors — compact and a little dated, but clean, with air-con, free Wi-Fi, and a simple egg-bread-and-Lao-coffee breakfast included and served in the garden. The fountain ring outside is lined with the French restaurants, cafes and colonial bakeries Vientiane is known for; the Mekong night market is a 10-minute walk and Patuxai about 15. From roughly $25 a night, with an overall 8.1/10, it is the best-value central pick for budget travelers who want to be in the thick of it without paying for it.

  • A minute's walk to the Nam Phou fountain and its French restaurants
  • Leafy courtyard you can actually sit and read in
  • Best value in the quarter, from about $25 a night
  • Rooms are small and dated — not the polished boutique some expect
  • Wi-Fi signal drops in upper-floor rooms far from the lobby

Mali Namphu Hotel

From ~$26

📍 In the Chanthabuly district right on the Nam Phu fountain, in the old-town core of Vientiane. It's about an 8-minute walk to the Vientiane Night Market, 10 minutes to the Mekong riverfront, roughly 1.5 km to the Patuxay arch, and a 15-minute drive from Wattay International Airport (VTE).

Right on the Nam Phu fountain in the old-town core 🌳 Tree-shaded courtyard with a small garden pool 🥐 Free Lao-French breakfast, baguettes and Lao coffee
on Nam Phu fountaincolonial courtyardfrom $18 a nightwalk to night market

Mali Namphu Hotel is a 33-room guesthouse tucked inside a cream French-colonial building right on the Nam Phu fountain, in the Chanthabuly heart of Vientiane's old town. The draw is the planted central courtyard, strung with Lao lanterns and lined with carved-wood furniture, that feels more like staying at a friend's house than a hotel. Rooms are simple but clean in a Lao-colonial style, and there's a small garden pool, a free Lao-French breakfast and free Wi-Fi throughout. The location is the real win: it's about an 8-minute walk to the Vientiane Night Market on the Mekong, and the Patuxay arch sits roughly 1.5 km away. Rates start at just $18 (around 900 baht) a night, which makes it a perennial favorite with backpackers and budget couples who want character over a generic hostel bunk. Guests on Agoda and Booking both land it at 8.2/10 and agree on the same two things: the atmosphere and the warm staff.

  • Old-town location right on the Nam Phu fountain
  • Pretty colonial courtyard strung with Lao lanterns
  • From $18 a night with free breakfast included
  • Simple rooms and no lift in the old building
  • Wi-Fi weak in some rooms, garden noise carries

Preguntas frecuentes
