Tegucigalpa Marriott Hotel is a 5-star, 153-room tower on Boulevard Juan Pablo Segundo, the newer financial district of Honduras's capital, right by the US Embassy and the UNAH national university. The modern glass building keeps the warm, familiar Marriott palette inside. Its standout is a large outdoor pool — genuinely rare in Tegucigalpa — alongside a modern spa, an all-day restaurant, and the M Club executive lounge for higher-tier guests. Standard rooms run a roomy 32 square metres on average, many opening onto the city or the El Picacho range with its landmark hilltop Christ statue. Rates start around $137 a night, and real guests give it 8.7/10 on Agoda and 8.6 on Booking — business regulars in particular praise the staff, the Marriott-signature breakfast, and how safe the surrounding district feels. It suits business travelers, families who want a name they trust, and anyone after international-standard comfort in a city that has few 5-star options.

  • Central financial-district spot, safe, next to the US Embassy
  • Large outdoor pool plus the M Club executive lounge
  • Marriott-standard service and the best breakfast in town

Hyatt Place Tegucigalpa is a 4-star, 124-room Hyatt sitting inside Parque Comercial Los Próceres, a gated shopping complex on Avenida La Paz near the US Embassy — widely considered the safest district in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. The draw is the rooms: every one runs about 36 square metres with the signature Hyatt Place L-shaped sofa lounge set apart from the bed, noticeably bigger than the rival American brands in town. Up top there's a rooftop pool and bar looking out at the El Picacho range with the white Cristo del Picacho statue in the distance, and a free hot breakfast buffet is bundled into every package. Hotel Plaza San Martin is a 4-star boutique with just 41 rooms, sitting directly across from the leafy Plaza San Martin in Colonia Palmira — the embassy district that foreign travelers rate the safest area of Tegucigalpa. Step out the door and you are among the plaza and a ring of national embassies, with cafes, tapas spots and local pubs a 5-to-10-minute walk away. What sets the place apart is the decor: the owner has turned the walls into a gallery of Honduran art — paintings, sculptures and a corner of displayed Maya antiquities. Rates start around $100 a night, with real guest scores of 8.7 on both Agoda and Booking for a combined 8.7/10. Hotel Honduras Maya — hotel No. 6 #6 city icon · classic value 8.2

📍 On Avenida República de Chile in the heart of Colonia Palmira — a 5-minute walk to the US Embassy, a 15–20 minute drive to Toncontín airport (TGU), and about 10 minutes by car from the old town, Centro Histórico.

🏛️ Open since 1968 — a Tegucigalpa landmark 🏊 Large outdoor pool + swim-up bar 🎰 Casino + convention center on site
city icon 1968valley viewsbig pool + swim-up barin-house casino

Hotel Honduras Maya is a Tegucigalpa landmark that opened in 1968 and has stood on a hill in the Colonia Palmira diplomatic district ever since, on Avenida República de Chile. For decades this 11-storey tower hosted Honduras's official national events, and it still holds around 159 rooms and suites, a large outdoor pool with a swim-up bar, a casino, a convention center, several restaurants, and panoramic views over the valley from the upper floors. The location sits in the middle of the embassy and business zone — about a 5-minute walk to the US Embassy and a 15–20 minute drive to Toncontín airport (TGU). The draw is grand-hotel character at a rate clearly lighter than the 5-star chains in town, starting around $83 a night, with an average review score of 8.2/10 on Agoda. It suits business travelers who want some occasion, couples who like a hotel with history, and families who value a big pool and a safe diplomatic-district base.

  • Large outdoor pool with a swim-up bar — genuinely hard to find anywhere else in this city
  • Safe Colonia Palmira diplomatic district, a 5-minute walk to the US Embassy and close to the airport
  • Lighter on price than the 5-star chains for a comparable spread of facilities
  • 1968 building — some parts renovated, others still feel dated
  • Sits on a steep hill, so walking out for food or coffee is awkward

Hotel Portal del Ángel is a roughly 30-room colonial boutique on Avenida República del Perú in Colonia Palmira — the calmest, safest district in Tegucigalpa, ringed by embassies and good restaurants. The building is a restored Spanish colonial mansion with a covered open-roof inner courtyard, hand-carved mahogany furniture, wrought-iron lanterns lit at night, a small heated pool in the garden, and a rooftop sundeck that looks out over the hills around the city. It is just 2 blocks to Boulevard Morazán, the main eating and nightlife strip, and the Toncontín airport (TGU) sits about 15 minutes away by car. The thing reviews agree on most is the warm, hands-on staff — guests keep saying it feels more like staying at a friend's house than a hotel. Rooms start around $89 a night, and the 8.6/10 score on Agoda and Booking suits business travelers, couples, and solo guests who want real Honduran character over a generic chain.

The pale-toned building hides behind big shade trees, and inside are around 30 rooms and suites that run wider than the city norm: high ceilings, warm wood tones, and a few with small balconies looking out at the mountains that ring the city. Preguntas frecuentes
