Sentosa is a resort island on Singapore's southern fringe, connected to the mainland by the Sentosa Boardwalk on foot and by cable car overhead. Packed into its borders: Universal Studios Singapore, a massive oceanarium, a waterpark, and 3 beaches. Getting here is straightforward — take the MRT Circle Line to HarbourFront, then hop the Sentosa Express or walk across the boardwalk in 15 minutes.
#1 Universal Studios Singapore
The only Universal Studios in Southeast Asia divides its grounds into 7 themed zones arranged around a central lake — Hollywood, Far Far Away (Shrek), The Lost World (Jurassic Park), and the newest addition, <strong>Minion Land</strong>, which opened in 2025. A full day still isn't quite enough to cover everything. Buy tickets online in advance to skip the gate queues.
- Add an Express Pass on busy public holidays — it cuts queue times significantly.
- Arrive at the 10:00 opening to hit the popular zones before the crowds build.
- Free lockers are available in front of the main rides — stow your bags before boarding.
#2 Singapore Oceanarium
Reopened in July 2025 under its new name, <strong>Singapore Oceanarium</strong>, replacing the former S.E.A. Aquarium at 3 times the original footprint. The rebuilt facility spreads across 22 zones housing more than 40,000 marine animals. The centrepiece is the Open Ocean Exhibit — a 36-metre-wide viewing panel looking onto 50,000 fish alongside sharks and rays. The newest addition is the Ocean Dreams Glamping zone, where guests can spend the night inside the aquarium.
- Book tickets online — walk-up prices at the door run about 20% higher.
- The Open Ocean panel is most dramatic between 10:00 and 11:00, when natural light filters down from above.
- Daily marine feeding sessions run throughout the day — check the schedule board at the entrance.
#3 Adventure Cove Waterpark
An indoor waterpark that blends slides with genuine marine encounters. The headline ride is <strong>Riptide Rocket</strong> — Southeast Asia's first magnetic water coaster — while Rainbow Reef offers a snorkel experience among 20,000 tropical fish. The 620-metre Adventure River lazy river winds past caves, jungle scenery, and aquarium sections all in a single loop.
- Use sunscreen without oxybenzone to protect the coral in Rainbow Reef.
- Wetsuits and snorkel gear are available on free loan at the Rainbow Reef counter.
- Queue for Riptide Rocket in the first 30 minutes after opening to avoid long waits.
#4 Skyline Luge Sentosa
A cross between a go-kart and a toboggan that needs no engine — you steer a three-wheeled cart down one of 4 tracks: Dragon (688 m), Jungle (628 m), Expedition, and Kupu Kupu. Between runs, the open-air <strong>Skyride</strong> chairlift carries you back to the top with 180-degree views of the South China Sea and the Singapore skyline. Sentosa's luge opened in 2005 as the first in Southeast Asia.
- The 3-run package works out cheaper per ride than buying individually.
- Night Luge runs on select evenings — the lit-up descent is worth choosing over a daytime run.
- Children aged 6 and up can ride solo.
#5 Siloso Beach
The westernmost of Sentosa's 3 beaches, and by far the liveliest. Beach volleyball, kayaking, a 50-metre bungy jump, and the <strong>AJ Hackett Giant Swing</strong> all sit along this stretch. Restaurants, beach clubs, and bars line the shore, and Siloso hosts the end-of-year ZoukOut festival at night.
- Avoid swimming after 16:00 on weekdays — currents pick up noticeably.
- Lockers are available for around SGD 5 at Ola Beach Club.
- Rent a paddleboard in the morning when the water is calm.
#6 Fort Siloso
A coastal gun battery built in 1878 to defend Keppel Harbour — the only fort in Singapore open to the public. Inside, exhibits cover the Second World War and include the <strong>Surrender Chambers</strong>, a detailed re-enactment of the 1942 and 1945 surrender ceremonies. For a broader view, the Skywalk suspension bridge runs through the forest canopy at 11 metres above ground, with sightlines across the strait.
- Free admission; open daily 10:00–18:00.
- The Skywalk is a good photography spot — high enough to clear the Sentosa tree line.
- Some exhibition panels include QR-code audio guides in multiple languages.
#7 Singapore Cable Car
Launched in 1974, this was the world's first cable car system to span a harbour. The Mount Faber Line runs from Mount Faber to HarbourFront at 100 metres above Keppel Harbour, then continues down to Sentosa, with views of the Singapore skyline and surrounding islands at their best around sunset. In 2024, a new <strong>SkyOrb</strong> glass-floor gondola was added, letting riders look straight down through the hull to the water below.
- Board the Mount Faber Line for wider panoramas than the shorter Sentosa Line.
- A Round Trip ticket bundled with the Sentosa Line offers the best overall value.
- The 17:30–19:00 sunset window is the most scenic slot, but queues are long — arrive 30 minutes early.
