The Westin Bayshore, Vancouver
by the TopOfHotel team
Westin Bayshore is a half-resort in the middle of the city — you walk out the door, you are on the seawall, and Stanley Park is right there, which active travelers love far more than the pure luxury service the Pacific Rim leans on.

In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The Westin Bayshore sits at 1601 Bayshore Drive in Coal Harbour, and it was Vancouver's first resort-style hotel — the North Tower opened in 1961 and the South Tower in 1970. There are 499 rooms across the two towers, and every one faces either the marina or the mountains. The last big renovation came in 2018, so the refurbished rooms feel fresh while the original ones have not been touched yet. Rooms start at the Traditional Room around 32 sqm and run up to the Bayshore Suite at 90 sqm, done in a Pacific Northwest blue-grey-white palette. Every bed is the Heavenly Bed, Westin's signature with a firm mattress and 10 pillows, and reviews keep coming back to how well people sleep on it. Wi-Fi is quick, there is a 49-inch Smart TV, and the bathroom has a rain shower and Heavenly Bath White Tea products. Real reviews on Trip.com (8.8/10) and Booking (8.7) mostly praise the resort feel and the marina views, with the recurring gripe being the age of the buildings.
Food and amenities
The heart of the Westin Bayshore is the pool deck, which families rate the best in Vancouver — a 25-metre indoor pool and an outdoor pool heated year-round, both open 06:00 to 23:00, plus a jacuzzi and poolside cabanas. Vida Spa runs Aveda treatments from CA$180 to 380, with a couples package at CA$520. The main restaurant, H Tasting Lounge, serves Pacific Northwest food with BC ingredients, and Sunday Brunch is CA$58 a head. The Currents Pool Bar pours cocktails and snacks by the pool in summer, and there is a Seawall Bar in the lobby. Bayshore Bike Rental on site rents bikes for the 28 km seawall loop around Stanley Park, from CA$15 an hour or CA$45 a day — it is the thing most guests here do. The fitness center is open 24 hours. Overall score 8.7/10.
Location and getting there
The hotel is right on Coal Harbour at 1601 Bayshore Drive, and it is the closest of the group to Stanley Park — you step out the door onto the seawall and you are in the park within 5 minutes. Robson Street is an 8-minute walk, Canada Place 10 minutes, and Burrard SkyTrain station about 10 minutes. BC Place — home of the Whitecaps and BC Lions and a major concert venue — is farther than the downtown hotels, about 15 minutes by taxi or SkyTrain (CA$15-20), which suits fans who would rather not walk far. YVR airport is 14 km out, roughly a 30-minute drive — an Uber runs CA$50-65, or you can walk to Burrard and take the Canada Line in 28 minutes.
Things to know before booking
A few honest things to weigh. First, the buildings are old (1961 and 1970): refurbished rooms feel fresh but some are still original, so ask for a Renovated Premium Room when you book — it runs about CA$50-80 more a night and is worth it. Second, it is a way from BC Place — a taxi or SkyTrain takes 15 minutes — so anyone who wants to walk to the stadium for a game or concert should look at the Hyatt Downtown Alberni or Sheraton Wall Centre. Third, the courtyard rooms on the south side are weaker than the marina rooms on the north side; ask for a Bayshore View to get the full marina and North Shore mountain outlook. Fourth, there is a CA$30-a-night resort fee covering Wi-Fi, the pools, and the fitness center — add it to the room rate when you budget.
Our take
The Westin Bayshore is the best fit in Vancouver for families with kids — a resort-style stay right on the seawall that walks straight into Stanley Park, with a heated indoor and outdoor pool open year-round, a Vida Spa, bikes to rent for the 28 km loop around the park, and marina and North Shore mountain views that are hard to find elsewhere. Rates start around $240, below the luxury hotels in the same stretch. If your trip is about letting the kids swim year-round, cycling Stanley Park, and getting a resort feel inside the city, this is the most sensible answer. If you would rather walk to BC Place or want full luxury service, look at the Hyatt Downtown or Pacific Rim instead. Overall we give it 8.7/10 — best for families who want the kids swimming year-round, couples who want to wander Stanley Park, and anyone into wellness.
