Rooms and decor
The resort has 96 villas across Beach Villas, Water Villas, and Jacuzzi Water Villas. The fan favourite is the Jacuzzi Water Villa, which puts a private Jacuzzi on a wooden deck reaching over clear water — open the door first thing and the blue sea is right under the floor. Guests describe sinking into the Jacuzzi with a hot coffee as the moment they wished time would stop. Every room comes with air-conditioning, a flat-screen TV, a tea and coffee maker, free Wi-Fi, and a minibar. The design pairs classic Maldivian style with something more current, using soft woods and white-and-grey fabrics.
Food and amenities
Duniye Spa runs treatments built around old Arabian coconut-oil techniques, and there is an outdoor pool, a gym, a sauna, and a full dive centre. The part we like most is the house reef around the island — you can snorkel it straight off the beach without chartering a boat, and plenty of guests spot sea turtles and small blacktip reef sharks at the drop-off. There are several restaurants and cafes on the island; the breakfast buffet runs 07:30 to 10:30, and the Sunset Cruise heads out for sundown with champagne and frequent dolphin sightings. Location and getting there
Veligandu sits on a private island in North Ari Atoll (Alif Alif), open since 1984 and renovated in 2013. Getting in from Velana International Airport (MLE) on Hulhule means a Trans Maldivian Airways seaplane of about 20 minutes — the shortest hop among the seaplane resorts here. What sets the island apart is the long white sandbar reaching into the sea off the east side. At low tide the smooth white sand stretches out, and the water is clear enough to watch clownfish drifting around the edge.
Things to know before booking
Rates open near $320 a night, and the seaplane adds roughly $500 per person round-trip on top of the room. The over-water rooms are the bottleneck: Water Villas book out 2-3 months ahead in peak season, which runs November to April. And while it all reads beautifully, the buildings were last renovated in 2013, so a few areas show their age next to resorts built from 2020 onward.
