In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
Space Boutique Hostel is a newer place that upgrades the shared-dorm experience with Japanese-style pod beds — each has a side partition, a front curtain, and a built-in reading light and power socket. It scores 8.5/10 on Booking.com and 8.3/10 on Agoda. The dorms run 4 to 8 beds, and there are a few private rooms too. Decor is minimalist in white, wood and mustard-yellow tones — clean and modern, and reviewers single out how much more private the pods feel than a normal hostel. Dorm beds start at about $14 a night and private rooms from roughly $34.
Food and amenities
The common and social space is fairly limited, so this leans toward travellers who want a quality bed on a budget rather than a party scene. Breakfast isn't included, but there are cheap Burmese tea shops and cafes right around the corner. Bathrooms are shared but clean, with hot water, and every room has air-con. The English-speaking staff can also help arrange tours out to Bagan and Mandalay.
Location and getting there
You're in downtown Yangon, a 7-minute walk from Scott Market and 5 to 8 minutes from Sule Pagoda. The central railway station is about a 10-minute walk, and Yangon airport is roughly a 45-minute taxi ride.
Things to know before booking
The social space is smaller than at hostels built around mingling — if you want a buzzy traveller scene, the nearby Backpacker B&B is a better fit. Breakfast isn't part of the rate, so budget for it outside. Bathrooms are shared, not en-suite, and private rooms are limited, so book early if you want one.
Our take
Best for solo travellers with an eye for design who want a good, private bed at a budget price. If the social side matters more to you than the room itself, the Backpacker B&B at #5 will suit you better.
