In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The headline here is space. Signature Halong runs grades from Junior Suite and Senior Suite up to the Exclusive Family Suite, at roughly 35-60 sqm — clearly bigger than the other 5-star boats in the same bracket. Reviewers in a Senior Suite describe about 40 sqm, with a jacuzzi out on the cabin balcony you can soak in over the karst at any hour. There's a large king bed, a work desk by the window, a safe, a flat-screen TV, and a marble bathroom kept clearly separate. Every cabin runs dark wood and brass in an Indochine style.
Food and amenities
Onboard there's a wood-lined restaurant and a wide sun deck where you can sip wine over the sunset. The set dinner is a 5-to-6-course seafood spread — big blue crab, lobster, grilled squid, and grouper steamed in soy. The bar runs until midnight and the welcome drink is free. Mornings bring tai chi on the deck and a spring-roll demo, and it's all bundled into the package. Security runs 24 hours.
Location and getting there
Bai Tu Long sits to the east of Ha Long and barely sees a tour boat. The ship leaves Halong International Cruise Port around midday and stops at Thien Canh Son Cave, where the stalactites rival Sung Sot but without the crowds. From there you kayak in small coves quiet enough to hear your own paddle, and call at a floating fishing village that's still a real working place rather than a show. In the evening the boat drops anchor mid-bay for squid fishing. A transfer from Hanoi is available.
Things to know before booking
This is a small ship with only about 14 cabins, so it can fill up and the intimate scale won't suit travellers who want a big-ship buzz. The Bai Tu Long route trades the headline scenery for calm — you stay away from Ha Long's most famous karst islands. And like every cruise here, it runs on a fixed schedule, so there's little room to shuffle the timing once you're aboard.
Our take
Signature Halong Cruise is the answer for couples and small families who want the biggest cabin you can get from around $169 a night up. The in-cabin jacuzzi with a karst view is the standout you won't find on boats at the same price, and Bai Tu Long is genuinely quiet — ideal if you're trying to dodge the crowds. We'd book the Exclusive Family Suite if you're travelling as a group.
