Renaissance Dhaka Gulshan Hotel
by the TopOfHotel team
A brand-new 5-star Marriott Bonvoy in the heart of Gulshan's diplomatic district, pulling together a 360-degree rooftop pool, an Art Deco spa, and service that has topped Tripadvisor Dhaka — and it clearly out-values the same-group Westin.

In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
Step through the 14-floor glass tower into the lobby of Renaissance Dhaka Gulshan and you feel it right away — the place is so new it almost still smells of fresh paint. Which checks out: it only opened in 2020, and they've kept that newness well. All 211 rooms and suites start at around 35 sq m, done in earth tones against wood and brass. It reads modern without trying to play up local kitsch, but it doesn't strip out the warm South Asian feel either. The Renaissance Bed is the soft, dependable Marriott standard, with a pillow menu, and the bathroom is marble-clad with a rain shower and a separate tub. Floor-to-ceiling windows open the city right up — high rooms on the north side look over Gulshan and the Gulshan-Banani Lake, while low rooms on the south face the busy main road. What guests keep coming back to is the cleanliness: hundreds of Tripadvisor reviews say opening the door feels like walking into a room that was just cleaned, every time: no musty smell, no stains, no old wear. In a city where most of the luxury hotels are showing their age, that kind of new counts for a lot.
Food and amenities
The heart of this place sits at the very top of the tower, where the design team poured everything into the rooftop pool — a 360-degree city view that has become the guests' favourite photo spot. At sunset, orange light slants through the Gulshan towers and turns an ordinary pool into something worth posting. A rooftop bar beside it pours cocktails and snacks, one of the few spots in Dhaka where you can sip a drink over the skyline like this. Down a few floors is the Quan Spa, themed in retro Art Deco — gold, black and emerald, the feel of walking into a 1920s spa. Reviews agree the treatments are good, the therapists have a light touch, and the rooms are dead quiet. As for food, Renaissance leans hard on Saffron Kitchen, the main restaurant, which lays out a full Indian and Bengali buffet at every meal: northern Mughal curries, fiery southern ones, lamb and chicken tandoori, butter ghee, a spread of sweets, plus international dishes for anyone who skips the heat. Lunch costs less than dinner but is just as full a spread, and a lot of reviews call it the best Indian buffet in Dhaka. There's also a cafe, a 24-hour gym, and a Club Lounge for higher-tier Marriott Bonvoy members that serves food and drink all day. It's well worth it for frequent business travellers.
Location and getting there
The hotel sits on Gulshan Avenue, the heart of Gulshan 1 — the most upscale diplomatic and business district in Dhaka. Around it are embassies, the head offices of banks and multinationals, upscale malls, the city's top restaurants, and the Gulshan-Banani Lake you can walk along. The DCC Gulshan 1 market, busy all day, is about a 5-minute walk: a close-up look at local life, with fruit stalls, tea shops and souvenir sellers. Modern shopping like Pink City Shopping Mall is walkable too. Hazrat Shahjalal (DAC) airport is about 30–40 minutes away in normal conditions, but a fair warning: Dhaka is famous for its traffic, and the evening and rush-hour run can stretch to 60–75 minutes. The hotel runs an airport transfer for a separate fee, so book ahead. For getting around town, a private car or Uber/Pathao is the answer, since Dhaka's public transit is still behind. If you're here for embassy or company business in Gulshan and Banani, this location scores a full ten — walk to your meeting, then come back and soak in the rooftop pool.
Things to know before booking
Straight talk before you book: the first thing to brace for is the traffic. Dhaka's is the stuff of legend, and in Gulshan at rush hour, 5 km can eat 45 minutes; the run to the airport in the evening can pass an hour. Anyone with an important meeting or a flight out should over-buffer and leave earlier than you think you need to. Second is the bar and alcohol — Bangladesh is a Muslim country, so serving is restricted and aimed mainly at foreign guests. The wine and cocktail choice at the hotel bar runs shorter than at luxury hotels in nearby countries, and prices are above the norm. If you're picturing a lively party rooftop, dial that back; you can still sip a quiet glass over the view. Third is the gym and pool, fairly compact for a 211-room hotel — at the morning 6–8 and evening 5–7 stretches when people gather to work out and swim, you may wait a moment for a machine or a lounger, so avoid the rush if you want it easy. Some reviews also flag the Wi-Fi on high floors being patchy some nights, even though the common areas run smoothly. For an important online meeting, work down in the Club Lounge or the cafe to be safe. On price, this is luxury-tier Dhaka but still well under the same-group Westin, and on value for money it beats its city rivals handily.
Our take
After reading through hundreds of real reviews on Agoda, Booking and Tripadvisor, Renaissance Dhaka Gulshan Hotel is the most rounded answer for a luxury stay in Dhaka right now. A brand-new tower from 2020 that's held its condition beyond what you'd expect, staff who learn your name and go past their job — enough to keep it at No. 1 on Tripadvisor Dhaka for months running, a rooftop city-view pool, a retro Art Deco spa, and a full Indian and Bengali buffet at every meal. It all comes in clearly under the same-group Westin. It's best for business travellers here for meetings in the Gulshan diplomatic district who want the newest Marriott Bonvoy in the city, then couples and luxury seekers passing through Dhaka who want a plush night or two. Families with young kids fit too, with roomy units and a safe pool. Budget backpackers aren't the target. From about $165 a night, we give it 8.9/10 — the best-value 5-star in Dhaka at the moment. If you're after a Dhaka trip that's easy, plush, clean and warmly served, this is the first place we'd point you to.

The Honest Verdict — pros & what to know
- Opened in 2020, so everything still feels brand-new — the furniture, bathrooms, lifts and TVs are all in sharp shape, unlike the older 5-star hotels in town that are starting to fray.
- Held the No. 1 spot on Tripadvisor Dhaka for months at a time, and guests agree on the reasons: cleanliness they call beyond expectations, and staff who learn your name and go past their job.
- A 360-degree rooftop pool and bar over the city, plus the retro Art Deco Quan Spa — wellness all wrapped up under one roof.
- Saffron Kitchen puts out a full Indian and Bengali buffet at every meal — curries, tandoori, butter ghee, sweets, all done to the original recipes, and reviews rave about it.
- It runs under Marriott Bonvoy and starts at about $165 a night — clearly better value than The Westin Dhaka, a few blocks away in the same group but a good deal pricier.
- Gulshan traffic is heavy in the evening and at rush hour — getting across to another part of the city can take several times longer than the map suggests, so build in plenty of buffer time.
- Alcohol is restricted in a Muslim country: the hotel bar serves foreign guests mainly, the wine and cocktail list is shorter than at luxury hotels in nearby countries, and prices run above the usual.
- The gym and pool area are fairly compact for a 211-room hotel — at the busy morning and evening stretches you may wait a moment for a machine or a pool lounger.
