Rooms are standard 4-star, done in a contemporary style, and come as Standard, Superior, and Family layouts. The recently renovated rooms are clean and up to date; the older ones still work fine but look more dated, so it's worth asking for an updated room when you book. Each room has free Wi-Fi, a coffee maker, and a clean bathroom.

Food and amenities

The Coachman Restaurant is a local favorite, serving classic New Zealand food that leans on lamb, Wagyu beef, and Snapper. The bar runs all day. Staff speak fluent English and will happily recommend places to see and help arrange a ride to the airport. There's no pool or gym on site, which is the main gap versus the Distinction.

Location and getting there

You're in the center of Palmerston North, near Plaza Shopping Centre and The Square, with Te Manawa Museum about 5 minutes on foot. It's 4 km to Massey University and 5 km to Palmerston North Airport. The free parking makes it especially easy if you've come by rental car.

Things to know before booking

There's no pool or gym in the building. Some rooms haven't been renovated, so request an updated one. Breakfast isn't included in every rate — you can add it at the Coachman Restaurant for about $13 a person.

Quality Hotel Coachman is the best fit for business travelers, families with a rental car, and parents visiting kids at Massey who want to dodge parking fees. It comes in better value than the Distinction at a comparable 4-star level, starting from about $80 a night.
