In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The room we'd book is the Superior Twin at roughly 45 sq m — about double a Tokyo hotel room — with a sitting area set apart from the beds, a 2-seat sofa, and a small kitchen running an IH stove, an 80-litre fridge, a microwave, and a combined Toshiba washer-dryer. For a family of four, or a couple on a longer five-night-plus trip, that much space makes the stay genuinely comfortable: you can park three suitcases and still have floor to walk. Linens are clean, the pillows are firm in the right way, and the Wi-Fi runs 200 Mbps.
Food and amenities
The standout amenity is the rooftop pool — an outdoor pool on the roof facing the west-side water, so late afternoon the sunset fills the whole pool. Downstairs, parking sits out front of the building at no charge per day, which is hard to come by in the middle of the island. The breakfast buffet leans local, with Okinawa soba, steamed-egg chawanmushi, and fresh shikuwasa citrus juice.
Location and getting there
Ginowan lands right in the middle between Naha and Chatan — guests drive to American Village in Chatan in 14 minutes, down to Shuri Castle in 20, to Kokusai-dori in 22, and out to Naha Airport in just 30. For a trip that wants to reach both ends of the island without picking a side, Moon Ocean Ginowan is the answer. The San A Convention City mall is 1 km away, which keeps shopping and meals easy.
Things to know before booking
This is a hotel in a residential pocket, not a beach resort — there's no private sand, and the nearest beach, Tropical Beach Ginowan, is about 3 km off. Ginowan itself isn't a resort strip or a main sightseeing district, so plan on driving out for most attractions. And the rooms book up quickly in high season, so reserve ahead.
Our take
The math is the story here: a 9.3 real-guest score that matches a 5-star resort like Kafuu (9.2), but with prices starting around $85 a night. Rooms score 9.4 and value 9.3, the two strongest categories. Moon Ocean Ginowan suits families and couples who want a wide residence room, a flexible base close to Naha Airport, and a real bargain in the 9-plus tier — more than a place to sleep, it's the best-value stay on our Okinawa list.
