In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The headline here is space. Standard rooms start at 23 sqm and Deluxe rooms at 26 sqm, while most Hong Kong hotels squeeze their standards into 15-18 sqm. That gap is the main reason families and couples who want room to move pick this place. The look is classic and a little plush, with a King or Twin bed and a bathroom that splits the tub and shower. Guests keep writing the same thing in reviews, that the rooms feel genuinely roomy for Hong Kong and not cramped the way other hotels can be. Club Floor rooms come with the Premium Lounge, which keeps drinks and snacks out all day.
Food and amenities
The fitness room has the basics covered, but there's no pool and no spa, which is the clearest limit here. The in-house restaurant, Lijing, does Cantonese food and a buffet breakfast that reviews call ordinary but fine. The Premium Lounge for Club Floor guests is the real perk, with free continental breakfast, afternoon tea and a cocktail hour, which makes the upgrade worth it if you'll use them. The concierge can sort out Hong Kong Island tours, Macau day trips and travel tips.
Location and getting there
The hotel sits on Lai Chi Kok Road right by Prince Edward MTR, a 3-minute walk. That station links the Tsuen Wan and Kwun Tong lines, so getting to any corner of Hong Kong is easy. Ladies Market on Tung Choi Street is about 5-8 minutes on foot and Sneaker Street on Fa Yuen Street about 5 minutes. Flower Market Road is roughly 8 minutes away and Yuen Po Bird Garden about 10. For the airport, take the Airport Express from Kowloon Station, around 30 minutes.
Things to know before booking
There's no pool or spa, so treat this as a comfortable sleep-and-go base rather than somewhere to spend the day. Breakfast in the main restaurant is simple continental and not very varied, and honestly you're better off walking out for dim sum in the neighbourhood. The design is also starting to feel dated. None of that is a dealbreaker for the price, but go in knowing what you're getting.
Our take
You come here for the square metres and the location, full stop. At 8.4/10 and from about $57 a night, Metropark Hotel Mongkok gives you a 23 sqm room and a 3-minute walk to Prince Edward MTR, which is a rare combination in this part of Kowloon. Skip it if you want a pool or a big breakfast spread; book it if a roomy bed and easy transit are what matter.
