In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
What sets Luxor apart from any other hotel on the Strip is staying inside the pyramid itself. Because the building is a triangle, the outer walls of the pyramid rooms are slanted glass that follows the shape of the tower, so you look out at an angle you won't get anywhere else. Even better is the ride up: not a normal straight elevator but an inclinator, a lift that climbs at an angle along the side of the pyramid — a small thing plenty of guests end up talking about. Beyond the pyramid there are also the twin Tower buildings added later; those rooms are newer and usually have bigger bathrooms. It's a very large hotel with around 4,400 rooms, and most reviews agree the rooms are quiet, decently soundproofed, with comfortable beds and clean for the price. Want the odd, memorable feel? Pick the pyramid. Want straightforward comfort? Pick the Tower.
Food and amenities
Inside you walk into a full ancient-Egypt theme — temple-style stone columns modeled on Luxor, Pharaoh statues, an obelisk — and a giant Sphinx guarding the entrance. It feels like stepping into a 90s adventure movie that was built to be fun rather than fancy, and that's a charm you won't find elsewhere. There's a large casino, an outdoor pool, a range of restaurants and a food court, and the Blue Man Group show on site. Wi-Fi is included in the resort fee.
Location and getting there
Luxor sits at the south end of the Strip on Las Vegas Boulevard, in a cluster of three hotels right next to each other, which is what makes the location stand out. Indoor walkways connect straight to Mandalay Bay on one side and Excalibur on the other, so you can stroll between them in the air-conditioning instead of out in the brutal desert heat. On top of that, a free tram stops at the hotel and runs between Mandalay Bay and Excalibur, and from there you can connect to another tram or walk into the central Strip. One thing a lot of guests love: Luxor is among the closest hotels to Harry Reid airport, just a few minutes by car, which makes both check-in and your flight home easy.
Things to know before booking
Straight talk to help you decide. The most common note in reviews is the building's age — open since 1993, it's dated, renovations haven't reached every room, and some guests get one that looks worn or smells stale. If that matters to you, ask for a renovated room or a Tower room at check-in. The other thing to know up front is the resort fee added every night on top of the room rate, which pushes the real total above the nice-looking number you see when booking — budget for it from the start. And because it's such a big hotel, check-in lines can run long, and the walk from the lobby through the casino to your room is a fair distance, so a heavy bag can be a slog.
Our take
After reading through hundreds of real guest reviews, Luxor Hotel & Casino is a hotel that sells value with a straight face — you sleep inside an iconic pyramid in the middle of the South Strip at a price that barely seems real, with walkways to Mandalay Bay and Excalibur and one of the shortest airport runs on the Strip. If your idea of a Vegas trip is keeping the room cheap so you can spend on shows, buffets and the fun outside, this nails it. If you're expecting a brand-new luxury room or 5-star service, the dated building and the added resort fee may leave you feeling it's not quite as pictured. Overall we give it 7.4/10 — best for budget travelers, backpacking couples, and families who want to be on the Strip without paying a fortune.

The Honest Verdict — pros & what to know

- Indoor walkways connect to Mandalay Bay and Excalibur, plus a free tram, so you can move between hotels without stepping out into the harsh desert heat.
- Pyramid rooms have slanted glass outer walls and are reached by an angled inclinator elevator — odd and fun — and reviews say the rooms are quiet with comfortable beds.
- It sits among the closest hotels to Harry Reid airport on the Strip, just a few minutes by car, which makes both arrival and departure easy.
- The building has been open since 1993, so parts of it and some rooms feel dated. Renovations haven't reached every room, and a few guests end up with one that looks worse than expected.
- A resort fee is charged every night on top of the room rate, so the real total runs higher than the price you see when booking — budget for it from the start.
- This is a very large hotel at around 4,400 rooms, so check-in lines can be long, and the walk from the lobby through the casino to your room is a fair distance.

Insider Tips
- For the full pyramid experience, book a Pyramid Room with the slanted glass wall; if you'd rather have a newer room and a bigger bathroom, choose a room in the Tower buildings.
- Check the resort fee amount carefully when you book — it's added per night on top of the room rate, so factor it into your budget.
- Use the free tram that stops at the hotel to reach Mandalay Bay and Excalibur, then connect to another tram line into the central Strip — it saves both your legs and a taxi fare.
