Walk one way for about 5 minutes and you reach the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès, the building behind the famous Cannes film festival, with its red-carpet steps to photograph. A little further on are the old port (Vieux Port), where the smarter yachts moor, and the old-town hill of Le Suquet, with winding stone lanes, lovely restaurants and city viewpoints. For shopping, the Rue d'Antibes is an easy walk. Cannes train station is about a 10-minute walk, with coastal Riviera trains to Nice, Antibes and Monaco; Nice airport is roughly 30 to 40 minutes by car. If you want to wake up, walk the seafront and explore Cannes on foot with barely a car ride, this spot scores full marks.

After reading through plenty of real guest reviews, JW Marriott Cannes sells "a beachfront base in the middle of town, plus a rooftop pool and sea-view bar, plus everything you need inside the building" with real confidence. If your trip in your head is crossing the road to the beach, sunbathing at the beach club, coming back to swim on the rooftop, then a sunset cocktail at Le Panorama before walking over to photograph the Palais des Festivals red carpet, this is about as well-matched a choice as you will find in Cannes. But if you expect a wide sea-view room every time at a reachable price, or you are after the old-world grandeur of a historic Riviera palace, you will need to pick your room and your dates carefully.
