In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The 84 rooms were redone in the ibis Sweet Bed concept — pale parquet laminate floors, white bed linen and the brand's signature artwork mounted above the headboard. At roughly 12 to 14 square metres they are genuinely small, even by ibis standards, so a big suitcase only fits open on the floor. That said, the layout is smart and the rooms feel newer than the price tag. The bathroom has a clean shower and basic toiletries, and the double-glazed windows keep out enough noise — if you sleep lightly, ask for a room côté cour (the courtyard side) rather than the one facing the boulevard.
Food and amenities
There is no gym and no pool here, which is normal for the ibis budget formula. The lobby bar runs 24 hours, pouring coffee, pastries and simple food at any hour. Breakfast is a buffet at about $13.50 a head, and children under 12 stay and eat free when they share the existing bed. The Wi-Fi is free and fine for web and social, though you will want to upgrade it if you need to take video calls.
Location and getting there
It is a 2-minute walk to the main exit of Gare de Lyon, where Metro lines 1 and 14 and RER A and D all run from inside the station. Line 1 takes you straight to the Louvre in 10 minutes; line 14 reaches Saint-Lazare in 8 minutes; RER A runs out to La Défense and Disneyland; and RER D connecting to RER B gets you to CDG airport in about 55 minutes. Place de la Bastille is a 10-minute walk, and the Promenade Plantée — the elevated green walkway — starts right behind the station, good for an early run or stroll.
Things to know before booking
The rooms are the trade-off: 12 to 14 square metres is tight, and there is nowhere to stash a large bag except the floor. There is no gym or pool, so this is a base, not a retreat. Breakfast at $13.50 is fair but unremarkable, and the standard Wi-Fi won't carry a long video call without the paid upgrade. Book through the Accor app at least a week out to shave 10 to 15 percent off the rate.
Our take
This is the pick for budget travellers who want to be next to the station, early-stage couples and anyone using Paris as a 1-to-2-night TGV connection. At $91 a night for a renovated room a 2-minute walk from the platforms, the value is hard to beat. It is not the place for families who need space or travellers who want full facilities — but for a short, well-located stop, it does exactly what it promises.

Insider Tips
- Book through the Accor app 7 or more days ahead — you usually land a 10 to 15 percent discount.
- Ask for a room côté cour (courtyard side); it is noticeably quieter than the rooms facing Boulevard Diderot.
- Kids under 12 stay and eat breakfast free on the existing bed, so a couple with a young child can skip paying for the extra sofa-bed.
