In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The West End has 122 rooms in a classic French style — heavy gold-and-blue curtains, parquet floors, cream-marble bathrooms, and the 3-metre ceilings you get in a Belle Epoque building. Standard rooms run 22 to 28 sq m with a king or twin bed. Premium Sea View rooms add a private balcony; Standard Sea View rooms get a big window facing the water but no balcony. Tripadvisor reviews split cleanly into two camps: people in the newly renovated rooms give 9/10, people in the older ones give 7/10. So asking for a renovated room when you book genuinely matters here. Bathrooms come with Roger & Gallet products from Paris.
Food and amenities
The main restaurant, Le Siecle, does classic French and Mediterranean — bouillabaisse, nicoise salad, lamb rack, leaning on Provence ingredients, with mains around $28 to $45. The Le Siecle Bar in the lobby has a vintage feel and signature cocktails around $15. Breakfast is a buffet at about $25 per person, with fresh croissants, eggs, and Provence cheese and ham; reviews call it better than the price. There's no pool and no full gym, so plan around the beach across the road.
Location and getting there
The hotel sits at No. 31 on the Promenade des Anglais, on the same side as the Negresco and about 500 m to its east — cross the road and you're at the public beach. Place Magenta is a 5-minute walk behind the hotel, a good shopping and dining area. Place Massena is about 10 minutes on foot and Old Town about 15. Tram L1 stops at Massena, a 10-minute walk away, and Tram L2 reaches Nice (NCE) airport in roughly 25 minutes for about $1.60.
Things to know before booking
The big one: the room lottery. An unrenovated room can drag the stay down, so put renovated room with sea view in your booking request. Beyond that, it's an old building — the lift is small, and Promenade traffic noise carries into some rooms, so a higher floor or a back-facing room helps if you're a light sleeper. And if a pool or a proper gym is on your list, this isn't the one.
Our take
The West End is the value play on this stretch of seafront: an 1842 address on the Promenade — older than the Negresco by 71 years — for roughly 65% less. It's best for couples who want the old-Nice atmosphere on a 4-star budget, travelers who like historic hotels but won't pay Negresco rates, and anyone who'd happily make Place Magenta their home base. If you want a pool or a modern room instead, look at the AC Hotel or the Hyatt.

The Honest Verdict — pros & what to know
- An 1842 building with genuine Belle Epoque atmosphere at a price you can actually reach.
- Same seafront location as the Negresco and Hyatt — across the road from the Promenade beach, just cross over.
- Close to Place Magenta, a solid shopping and dining district, with cheap socca spots a 5-minute walk behind the hotel.
- The Le Siecle restaurant and a vintage lobby bar where signature cocktails run about $15.
- From around $186 a night — the best value among the 4-stars on the Promenade, roughly 65% below the Negresco for the same view.
- 24-hour front desk with good English-speaking staff.
- Rooms are renovated or not, and it shows — on Tripadvisor the new rooms get 9/10 and the older ones 7/10, so ask for a renovated room when you book.
- No pool and no full gym, so it is a poor fit if those matter to you.
- It is an old building: the lift is small, and Promenade traffic noise reaches some rooms.
