In-Depth Review
Hotel Topazz is a clear design statement in the middle of old Vienna — a round building wrapped in soft copper-toned metal, with oval windows lined up on every floor. It looks unusual but handsome in an area full of baroque and Jugendstil. Architect Andreas Schluder designed it to be a new gem in Vienna's jewellery box.
Rooms and decor
All 32 rooms have a large oval window, and the topaz theme runs through them in brown-gold tones, with handcrafted furniture and high-quality fabrics. Sizes start at 25 sqm for a standard and reach 55 sqm for a suite. Every room has good air control and blackout curtains. Reviewers note the rooms are small but cleverly designed and never feel cramped.
Food and amenities
The ground-floor bar stays open late, pouring Austrian cocktails and local craft beer, and it works as a meeting spot for the local creative crowd. Breakfast is served in a small, nicely decorated dining room, with Austrian pastries and fresh coffee. There is no pool or spa.
Location and getting there
Am Lugeck sits between Stephansdom and Rotenturmstrasse — a 5-minute walk to Stephansdom and 8 minutes to the Graben, with the U1/U3 at Stephansplatz about 5 minutes away. It is an ideal base for exploring the Inner City on foot, with no need for a car.
Things to know before booking
With only 32 rooms, it books out fast, so reserve early. There is no pool or spa, and no on-site parking — you are directed to a nearby garage and public transport instead.
Our take
Hotel Topazz is the pick for travellers who want a distinctive design hotel, a central location and fair pricing — one of Vienna's few Instagram hotels that is genuinely worth the stay.
