In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
A Flemish family restored three historic buildings in the Patershol quarter and turned them into something with real character. The 40-plus rooms are spread across all three, and each one is designed differently — some have vaulted ceilings, some have old beams, some have arched windows looking out over the Leie. The look is warm, a mix of Scandinavian and Flemish — bright tones, good white linen, a Nespresso machine in every room. Reviews single out the soft beds and how quiet it stays. Rates start around $134 a night with breakfast included, which is solid value for what's on offer.
Food and amenities
The outdoor pool, open in summer, is the standout — the kind of thing you almost never get in a downtown hotel. There's also a summer terrace right on the Leie, which is where you'd take breakfast with the river in front of you. Breakfast is included and rotates through local products, Belgian cheese and fresh-baked bread. Step outside and you're in Patershol, a quarter packed with the kind of good restaurants locals actually eat at rather than tourist traps.
Location and getting there
Beyond the 100 m to Gravensteen — the 12th-century castle of the Counts of Flanders — the historic Graslei and Korenlei quays are about 5 minutes away, Vrijdagmarkt another 7, and St. Bavo's Cathedral around 10. That puts the castle, the prettiest stretch of the river, and the cathedral all within an easy walk.
Things to know before booking
The Patershol streets are narrow, so wheeling a big suitcase to the door is a little fiddly. On-site parking is limited — arrange it ahead rather than turning up and hoping. And the pool runs in summer only, roughly June to September, so if you're coming off-season, don't book for that.
Our take
With a 9.1/10 score and reviews praising clean rooms, attentive owners and lovely views, Hotel Harmony is the pick for couples after a romantic riverside base, families who want to be steps from the castle, and anyone who'd rather stay where locals actually live.

- The Patershol streets around the hotel are full of excellent restaurants the locals favor — ask the staff for a recommendation.
- In summer, get to the pool before 9:00 when it's much quieter.
