In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
The 131 rooms are done in current Holiday Inn style — brown and cream tones, parquet floors, marble in the bathroom. The Standard Room runs 26 sq m, about 60% larger than the 3-stars around the station, and the Family Room hits 32 sq m with a sofa-bed that sleeps 4. Each has a 49-inch Smart TV, a Nespresso machine, free Wi-Fi and good air-con. Tripadvisor reviews repeatedly say the rooms are bigger than expected — easy to spread out a large suitcase. The Executive Room costs about $23 more and adds Lounge access with snacks and free evening drinks.
Food and amenities
The newer Holiday Inn format runs on the Open Lobby idea — lobby, restaurant, bar, coffee shop and work space rolled into one all-day area serving French and international plates. Kids Eat Free means children under 13 get breakfast free and eat lunch and dinner free too, ordering off the kids menu with a parent. Adults pay EUR 22 (about $24) for the breakfast buffet. The bar stays open until midnight, there's a full gym, and the Wi-Fi is free and fast — IHG One Rewards members get premium speed.
Location and getting there
It sits at 20 Avenue Jean Médecin, 250 m from Gare de Nice-Ville, a 3-minute walk. The Tram L1 stop at Jean Médecin is one minute away — Old Town in 6 minutes, Place Masséna in 4. On foot, Place Masséna is 8 minutes, Promenade des Anglais 15, Old Town 12. For the airport, Tram L2 from Gare Thiers reaches NCE in 25 minutes for about $1.60. Coastal trains run to Monaco in 20 minutes (about $5) and Cannes in 30 (about $7.50).
Things to know before booking
Adults pay EUR 22 (about $24) each for breakfast, even though children eat free. Rates from around $137 a night sit above the other 3-stars by the station. And some reviews flag street noise from Avenue Jean Médecin reaching certain rooms, so it's worth asking about a quieter one when you check in.
Our take
This is the family pick of the station cluster. Best for families with children under 13 who stay and eat free, business travelers on IHG One Rewards who want the extra space, and couples who like shopping right on Avenue Jean Médecin. Backpackers on a tight budget should look elsewhere.
