You walk in past a sitting area and a work desk before reaching the soft bed and a floor-to-ceiling window. Many rooms face the outdoor pool and the neighbouring Sahara golf course; the city-facing ones look out to the desert skyline. The bathrooms are large, with a tub split from a walk-in shower and full Hyatt amenities. Because the place is so new, reviews keep saying the same two things — the bed sleeps beautifully and everything still looks brand new, which is rare in a city where most 5-stars opened decades ago.

Food and amenities

The real point of this hotel is what sits past the room door. There is a premium spa with 12 treatment rooms, an outdoor pool and a full gym. Dining runs across several styles in the one building — Lebanese, Italian and an international buffet — so you never need to leave to eat well. And the headline amenity is the one no other 5-star in town can match: the hotel connects straight into 360 Mall, one of Kuwait's largest and best-known luxury malls, with global brands lined up under the same roof. Step out of your room, take the lift down, and you are shopping without ever facing the desert sun.

Location and getting there

If there is a second selling point after the mall link, it is how close this sits to the airport. Kuwait International (KWI) is about a 10-12 minute drive — the closest of any 5-star in the city, where most sit on the gulf and run a longer 20-30 minutes out. That makes Grand Hyatt a first choice for business travelers flying in for a few hours of meetings, or anyone on a long transit who wants a real bed over an airport lounge. The south-side location also sits near the Hawalli and Salmiya business districts. Central Kuwait City and the Persian Gulf waterfront — Kuwait Towers, Souk Al Mubarakiya and the museums — are about 15-20 minutes away by car. There is no metro in Kuwait City, so getting around means a taxi through the Careem app (the popular Middle East ride-hailing app) or the hotel car; fares stay low and it beats finding a cab outside. Things to know before booking

Straight talk to make the call easier. First, weigh the south-side location in Al Zahra, away from central Kuwait City and the gulf waterfront where the main sights are. If your trip is built around strolling the waterfront, going up Kuwait Towers or soaking up local life in the old quarter every day, this spot is not the handiest — you will be in and out of a car several times a day. But if the plan is mostly rest, shopping or a short Kuwait stop, it fits well. Second, food and shops inside 360 Mall price above the city average, since it is a luxury mall full of global brands; for local food at local prices, you take a car out to another district or to Souk Al Mubarakiya in the old town. Last, because the hotel is part of a big mall, Kuwait's weekend (Friday-Saturday) and holidays bring crowds through the shops, and the mall-side entrance runs busier than a standalone hotel. Anyone who wants total quiet may find it a touch hectic — though take the lift to the guest floors and it goes silent like any other hotel, so ask for a high floor to be safe.

But if the heart of your trip is walking the Persian Gulf waterfront and soaking up the old town every day, a hotel in the city by the gulf may suit you better.
