In-Depth Review
Rooms and decor
Ana Mandara Villas Dalat is built from 17 French colonial villas of the 1920s-1930s, scattered across a hillside. Every one has been carefully restored, keeping its wood-burning fireplace, claw-foot tub, polished wood floors and antique Indochine furniture. Reviewers who book a Deluxe room of about 35 sqm in a villa facing the pine forest describe throwing open the wooden casement windows and hearing the cold wind move through the pine tops — and on nights when Dalat drops to around 12 degrees, that fireplace earns its keep.
Food and amenities
The facilities impress guests as much as the villas. There is a heated outdoor pool you can actually use on a foggy day, and the full-service La Cochinchine spa runs Vietnamese herbal treatments. Le Petit Dalat serves French-Vietnamese fusion, and the set breakfast pulls very high review scores. Wi-Fi is free across the resort, private parking is free, and the concierge will book you a Lang Biang tour or a trip out to Datanla Waterfall. Real guest scores land at about 9.4 on Trip.com and 9.2 on Agoda.
Location and getting there
The resort sits on a hillside near Le Lai street, about 1.5 km from Xuan Huong Lake and Dalat Market. Guests say the downhill walk past pretty old colonial houses takes roughly 20 minutes to reach the centre, with artichoke and strawberry stalls to stop at along the way. It is about 2 km from Dalat Cathedral and the Crazy House, and roughly 28-30 km from Lien Khuong Airport. The resort arranges airport transfers — set a time and it is very easy.
Things to know before booking
This is the highest starting price on our Dalat list, from around $86 a night and up to about $177 for the larger villas. The 17 villas are spread over a hillside, so you will walk up and down between your room and the main facilities — worth knowing if stairs and slopes are an issue. And in high season the villas fill quickly, so book ahead if your dates are locked in.
Our take
Ana Mandara Villas Dalat Resort & Spa is at its best for couples, honeymoons, anniversaries and anyone who wants a luxury stay in a historic villa you simply cannot find elsewhere in Vietnam. A real-guest score of 9.4 and a colonial atmosphere that does not feel faked make the price easy to justify — the strongest possible way to open a Dalat list.
