Where to stay in Tashkent — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, blends modern glass towers and leafy parks with Silk Road heritage — ancient bazaars and turquoise-domed mosques sit just blocks from sleek new districts. The city's signature experience is its metro, where each station is decorated like an underground museum, from the space-themed Kosmonavtlar to the gold-mosaic domes of Alisher Navoi. With low prices, friendly locals and easy transport, it's one of Central Asia's most rewarding and budget-friendly capitals.
Why stay in Tashkent
Central Asia's most beautiful metro
Built in the Soviet era, each station is a work of art — chandeliers, mosaics and marble. Kosmonavtlar honours cosmonauts; Alisher Navoi has gold-patterned domes. A single ride costs pennies, and photography has been allowed since 2018.
Luxury on a small budget
Food, hotels and transport cost far less than most of Asia. A big bowl of plov runs a couple of dollars, and comfortable hotels start at very modest rates.
Living Silk Road heritage
The old Hazrati Imam quarter houses the 7th-century Uthman Quran, surrounded by historic mosques and madrasahs and the new Center for Islamic Civilization.
Friendly, safe and easy to enter
Uzbekistan has eased visa rules for many travellers, locals are warm and welcoming, the city is clean, and it feels safe to walk at night.

🚆 Getting around Tashkent
From TAS Airport
Islam Karimov Tashkent International Airport (TAS) is about 15 minutes from the center. There is no metro link, so take a taxi or the Yandex Go app — roughly 30,000–60,000 som (about USD 2–5).
Metro: 4 lines, 50 stations
The best way to get around, covering all the main sights. A single ride is a flat fare regardless of distance — pay at the booth or with a top-up card. The stations alone are worth the trip.
Yandex Go for rides
The most popular ride-hailing app shows fares upfront and is cheaper and easier than haggling with street taxis. Some drivers want cash in som, so keep a little on hand.
Som cash + cards
The currency is the som (UZS). Hotels and bigger venues take cards, but markets, taxis and small eateries are cash-only. 24-hour ATMs at the airport dispense som on arrival.
Buses & walking
City buses cover a wide network and are paid by card or app, while the central Broadway and square area is very walkable, with wide, shaded sidewalks.
Where to go next near Tashkent

Where should I stay in Tashkent?+
First-timers do best in the city center around Amir Timur Square, within walking distance of Broadway, museums and the main metro. Budget and backpacker travellers prefer Mirabad for its cafes, bars and proximity to the train station, while families like quieter Yunusabad with its pool-equipped hotels.
What's the easiest way to get around Tashkent?+
Use the metro as your backbone (4 lines, 50 stations) — cheap and far-reaching — and the Yandex Go app for anywhere it doesn't reach. From the airport, a taxi or Yandex ride to the center takes about 15 minutes.
What currency does Tashkent use, and do I need cash?+
The currency is the som (UZS). Hotels and larger venues accept cards, but Chorsu Bazaar, taxis and small shops are cash-only. Withdraw som from the 24-hour airport ATMs and keep some on you.
