Where to stay in Gozo — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Gozo is Malta's quieter sister island — greener, slower and far more laid-back than the main island. It's home to the crystal-clear Blue Lagoon off Comino, the Ġgantija Temples that pre-date the Egyptian pyramids by over a thousand years, the medieval Cittadella crowning Victoria, and the kind of unhurried Mediterranean countryside that's vanished from most of Europe. The ferry from Malta takes just 25 minutes — making Gozo the perfect base for a proper slow escape.
Why stay in Gozo
Slower than the main island
Sleepy villages, dry-stone fields and an unhurried Mediterranean rhythm — ideal if you actually want to switch off.
World-class water
Comino's Blue Lagoon and the Dwejra Blue Hole rank among the clearest, most beautiful swimming and dive spots in the Med.
Deep, ancient history
The UNESCO-listed Ġgantija Temples are older than Stonehenge and the pyramids, alongside the walled medieval Cittadella.
Real local food
Gozitan ftira, ġbejna sheep's cheese and slow-cooked rabbit in red wine — flavours you rarely find on the main island.

Ferry from Ċirkewwa
The Gozo Channel ferry runs from Malta's northern tip to Mgarr harbour in about 25 minutes, almost around the clock, and you can take a car across.
Fast ferry from Valletta
Gozo Highspeed (Virtu) runs direct from Valletta to Mgarr — the quickest option if you're travelling without a car, a 10-minute walk from the bus station.
From Malta Airport
Take the X1 express bus straight to Ċirkewwa (~1 hr), or a bus into Valletta then the fast ferry. There is no airport on Gozo itself.
