Where to stay in Goa — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks

Picture endless golden sand, beach shacks grilling fresh fish next to the surf, 400-year-old whitewashed Portuguese churches, pastel-painted lanes in the old quarter, and parties that run till sunrise. That's Goa — India's smallest state but its most famous coastal escape. Ruled by Portugal for over 450 years, Goa blends European and Indian influences in a way you won't find anywhere else, from its food and architecture to its famously easygoing pace. The state splits into a buzzing party-driven North Goa and a quiet, upscale South Goa — pick the side that matches your trip and you'll fall hard for the place.

Why stay in Goa

🌅

A beach for every mood

Goa has dozens of beaches — party at Baga and Anjuna, chill at Palolem and Patnem, bring the family to Colva. Every stretch has shacks where you sip a cold beer as the sun drops into the Arabian Sea.

450 years of Portuguese heritage

Old Goa's 400-year-old baroque churches are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, while Panaji's Fontainhas quarter is full of pastel Latin-style houses that look great from every angle.

🍛

A one-of-a-kind fusion cuisine

Goan food marries Indian spice with Portuguese vinegar, garlic and wine, giving you vindaloo, xacuti, fragrant fish curries and the sweet layered dessert bebinca.

🛵

Easy to explore, easy on the wallet

Rent a scooter for a few dollars a day and roam at will. Stays run from backpacker hostels to five-star beach resorts, and prices beat most tropical destinations.

🚆 Getting around Goa

✈️

Two airports — pick by side

Mopa/Manohar (GOX) sits in the north near Baga, Calangute and Anjuna; Dabolim (GOI) is in the south near Colva and Palolem. Book your stay first, then fly into the closer one.

🛵

Renting a scooter is the best way

The classic way to do Goa: rent a scooter or motorbike for a few dollars a day and explore freely. Always wear a helmet and carry an international driving permit.

🚕

GoaMiles app taxis

The Goa government's licensed app-based taxi service — easy to hail, transparent fares, cashless payment. Best for longer trips and airport runs, and cheaper than haggling with roadside taxis.

🚌

Local KTC buses

State-run Kadamba (KTC) and private buses link the main towns for very little money (from a few rupees), but they're slow and crowded — fine for budget travellers in no hurry.

💵

Cash plus UPI

Carry rupees (INR) for shacks, markets and scooter rentals. Larger venues and GoaMiles accept digital UPI payments, and ATMs are easy to find near every beach.

Where to go next near Goa

Frequently asked — where to stay in Goa

North Goa or South Goa — which is better?+

It depends on your trip. North Goa (Baga, Calangute, Anjuna) is lively, with bars, markets, nightlife and the widest range of stays — ideal for first-timers and party people. South Goa (Palolem, Colva, Patnem) is quieter, with clear water, upscale resorts and a relaxed feel — better for couples, families and anyone who really wants to unwind.

When is the best time to visit Goa?+

November to March brings cool, sunny, swimmable weather and the liveliest shack scene — it's high season, so Christmas and New Year get pricey and crowded. The monsoon (June–Sept) is wet and quiet, but the hills turn green and Dudhsagar Falls is at its most spectacular.

What's the easiest way to get around Goa?+

Renting a scooter is the most freeing and affordable option (carry an international driving permit and wear a helmet). If you'd rather not drive, use the government-licensed GoaMiles app for transparent fares. KTC buses are cheap but slow, and since the beaches are fairly spread out, having your own wheels helps a lot.
