Where to stay in Kourou — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Picture a small Atlantic coastal town where the Amazon rainforest crowds right up to the edge, and Europe's Ariane rockets roar into the sky above the coconut palms. That's Kourou the launch town of French Guiana and home to Europe's spaceport. Most travelers come for two reasons: the Guiana Space Centre (Centre Spatial Guyanais), which runs free guided tours, and the Îles du Salut the islands that include the legendary Devil's Island, once France's most infamous penal colony. Kourou isn't a polished resort town, but as a launchpad for adventure, it's like nowhere else on Earth.
Why stay in Kourou

Frequently asked — where to stay in Kourou
How do I visit the Guiana Space Centre, and is it free?+
Visits are free, but you must book a tour at least 48 hours in advance online or by phone and provide passport details. Bus tours run twice daily (8:00 and 13:00), Monday to Saturday. Children under 8 are not allowed in most areas of the grounds.
Can I actually set foot on Devil's Island?+
You can't land directly on Île du Diable (Devil's Island) due to rough seas and no dock, but boats take you to Île Royale and Île Saint-Joseph with a close view of Devil's Island. Boats leave Pointe des Roches in the morning, and the crossing takes about 1 hour 15 minutes.
When is the best time to visit Kourou?+
The dry season from August to November is best, especially September and October when rainfall is lowest and sunshine highest — ideal for island boat trips and forest walks. Avoid April to June, the wettest stretch of the year.
