Where to stay in Suva — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Suva is the capital of Fiji, and it looks nothing like the resort postcards most people picture. This is the country's real working city, set on a peninsula along a harbour on the southeast coast of Viti Levu, Fiji's largest island. The appeal lies in the mix: weathered British-colonial buildings, a buzzing produce market, the oldest museum in the South Pacific, and a multicultural food scene blending native Fijian and Indo-Fijian cooking you won't find anywhere else. If you want to see the urban side of Fiji rather than just a beach resort, Suva is where it happens.
Why stay in Suva
A real capital, not a resort strip
Suva is Fiji's political, academic and cultural heart, with colonial-era buildings, Parliament and the University of the South Pacific. It's the place to feel everyday Fijian city life.
The South Pacific's oldest museum
Set inside Thurston Gardens, the Fiji Museum holds canoes, artefacts and the islands' history, including the rudder from the famous HMS Bounty.
A genuine multicultural food city
Native Fijian dishes meet Indo-Fijian curries here, from coconut-laced curries and roti to fresh kokoda and a market packed with local produce.
Rainforest minutes from downtown
A 20-minute drive reaches Colo-i-Suva Forest Park, a tropical rainforest with clear swimming pools, waterfalls and more than 14 native bird species.
