Where to stay in Temburong — pick the right hotel, book in 3 clicks
Temburong is Brunei's wildest, greenest corner — an exclave cut off from the rest of the country by Malaysia's Sarawak, which is exactly why it stayed so untouched. Its heart is Ulu Temburong National Park, Brunei's first national park, roughly 50,000 hectares of pristine rainforest reached only by traditional longboat up the Temburong River. The payoff is a canopy walkway some 50 metres above the forest floor, looking out over an unbroken sea of treetops. Since 2020 the Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien (Temburong) Bridge — around 30 km long and the longest in Southeast Asia — has linked the capital straight to Temburong in about 30 minutes, replacing the old speedboat crossing across Brunei Bay. It's the place to come when you want real rainforest, not a city.
Why stay in Temburong
Genuinely untouched primary rainforest
Ulu Temburong has been Brunei's national park since 1991 — roughly 50,000 hectares of old-growth jungle that has barely been logged, home to hornbills, gibbons, proboscis monkeys and thousands of plant species. Forest this intact is rare anywhere in Asia now.
The journey in is half the adventure
You reach the park by traditional wooden longboat, threading up the shallow, clear Temburong River through rapids and dense forest. At low water the boatmen push off the rocks by hand — it's an experience you'll remember before you even arrive.
Far easier to reach since the bridge
Since the Temburong Bridge opened in 2020, the drive from Bandar Seri Begawan takes about 30 minutes instead of an hour-plus by speedboat across the bay. That makes Temburong an easy day trip — or an overnight if you want to slow down.
Eco-travel done properly
Most stays here are eco-lodges and Iban cultural villages — solar-powered, tucked into the forest. You fall asleep to cicadas and rushing water, then wake up to trek out to a waterfall and swim in a cold, clear jungle pool.

🚆 Getting around Temburong
Drive across the Temburong Bridge
Since the bridge opened in 2020, the drive from Bandar Seri Begawan to Temburong takes about 30 minutes — now the easiest way in. The old passenger speedboat service across the bay has stopped.
Go with a guided tour (the main way)
Ulu Temburong National Park is accessible only on a guided tour. Most pick you up from your capital hotel early, and bundle the minivan, longboat, lunch and park fees into one package.
Hire a car and self-drive
Rent a car at Bandar Seri Begawan airport (Avis, Hertz, Thrifty and others) and drive across the bridge yourself. Temburong's roads are quiet and easy — handy for exploring Batang Duri and Peradayan on your own.
Carry enough cash
The Brunei dollar (BND) is pegged 1:1 to the Singapore dollar (SGD), and SGD is widely accepted. ATMs and card payment are limited in Temburong, so withdraw enough cash in the capital before you go.
Start from Brunei Airport (BWN)
Fly into Brunei International Airport (BWN) in Bandar Seri Begawan, then continue by car or tour into Temburong. There is no airport within Temburong itself.

Can I visit Ulu Temburong on my own, or do I need a tour?+
You need a guided tour — access requires a longboat trip into the forest and the park has its own rules. Most tours pick you up from your hotel in Bandar Seri Begawan early in the morning and include the boat, transport, lunch and park fees in one package.
Should I stay in Temburong or do a day trip from the capital?+
Since the Temburong Bridge opened, many people do it as an easy day trip from Bandar Seri Begawan — it's only about a 30-minute drive. But if you want to really soak up the rainforest, hear it at night and wake up in nature, spend a night at an eco-lodge or Iban village.
How high is the canopy walkway, and is it hard?+
The steel tower stands about 50 metres above the forest floor, reached after a forest trek and a fair climb up the staircase. Wear trainers or hiking shoes and bring water and insect repellent — but the view over the whole canopy is well worth the effort.
